Hi all,

on another post, some kind of gearbox, throttle reset has been mentioned to cure acceleration/kickdown issues resulting from adapting to driving style. My e280cdi has this problem i think as i drive in a lot of traffic, so do not make use of the acceleration often.

does anyone know what this reset is? how you do it? and does it help lag problems on kickdown

(1) sit in driver seat, leaving the door OPEN

(2) Turn the key to the ON position (do NOT start) – this is the position just before the car turns over

(3) Press the accelerator pedal to the floor pressing the kickdown button with the key still in the ON position

(4) Retain this position for 5 seconds, then leaving the pedal pressed, turn the key back to the OFF position, but do NOT remove the key at this stage

(5) Once key is in OFF position, release the pedal

(6) With the key still in, but in the OFF position, let the car sit for a complete 2 minutes.

(7) The car will adjust its electronics/memory during this time. Do not touch anything in the car during this time

(8) WITHOUT removing the key first, start the car’s engine

(9) Drive the car as it learns the new settings

Hi Benzino,

You need a Star system to reset the shift adaptions and yes, it will probably help a "lazy" gearbox. There are some aftermarket diagnostic tools that can reset adaptions on some models, but they're generally a bit flaky as to whether the operation will complete succesfully.

The throttle to the floor method doesn't reset anything, it just tricks the car into thinking that you're in one hell of a hurry, so the car sharpens it's reactions in anticipation of a right good thrashing.
