Resonator delete: straight pipes, H pipes or X pipes?

For whatever reason, MB V8s don't sound that good - they just don't. VAG's (and other's) V8s are a lot more wholesome sounding and that's without them being loud either.
For the (important to MB) American market (where V8s are commonplace) maybe MB wanted its V8s to sound different?
Though the vast majority of folks feel that out of the German brands, the AMG V8s sound the sweetest. I can barely find one or two RS models that sound amazing and literally no BMW V8s 🤣🤣

Straight pipe it, otherwise you will gain no exhaust note over the stock sound. The stock system already has an H pipe in place, if you don't straight the resonator it will give no difference in tone on any throttle.

DO IT, YOU WONT REGRET IT 😁😉

I actually like the oem tone, just want to turn the volume up :)

In that case you will keep the stock tone, but it will be more inhunched with medium to heavy throttle, but like stock on little throttle. It's the BEST pound for sound MOD 🥳

Forgive the spelling mistakes 🙄

Many many exhaust specialist can perform a Res delete with stainless steel straight pipes. You don't have to travel half way around the UK to have this simple mod achieved 😁.

That would be enhanced. 🙄 My bad 350cls👎

MSL are only about an hour from me. It will give me a chance to talk about the car, see what these guys are about. I need to find myself an indy to use for this, these guys could be a good fit.

In that case, what are you waiting for 😁😁👍🏻

Book them Dano 👍🏻

When your ready, please do a before and after videos and post up. Will be good resource for anyone else wanting to do the same 👍

Yes will do. I've just called my insurance company (Admiral) aside from a £25 admin fee, no additional cost to adding this to the policy. Same for a set of wheel spacers.

I've got an appt with Powerflow on Friday for them to scope the work. According to their website it would cost between £80 and £140. I would have gone to MSL, but they're twice the cost and an hour away. Not a problem for something more specialist (sports cats, new backbox etc) but welding two metal tubes.....)

That sounds about right, Flowtech in Romford quoted me £80 per side for my other car during lockdown. I asked for the pipe to be expanded at the ends for a sleeve joint and then welded instead of clamps to make it super strong. They said they would use stainless steel too, which is better than mild steel.

Wow, both of these sound remarkably cheap! I'd have expected around the £300 mark.

I used Flowtech, on a previous AMG E55K. They welded C63 boxes onto the car, also had to adjust the brackets on the box hangers for them to fit. Was a great job they done. We thought it was a straight over swap for the C63 boxes but wasn't. So we had to come up with an alternative plan as to book the car in the nearest opportunity to have the boxes fitted as neatly as possible. I was driving around for under a week with no rear boxes, just straight pipes. It did sound bloody awesome but my ear drums still aren't the better for that lol. I remember leaving that evening pulling out of there garage. " I was like now this sounds mental" it wasn't until I got at crusing speed/ rpm that the drone would literally cause the whole car to shake. When you got into the pedal it was glorious, anything around 1,800 2,000 rpm. It was very very unpleasant.

I currently have just the resonator delete on mine, will be doing a secondary cat delete soon, it's on my menu of things to do list and looking forward to that.😀

Interestingly h pipe configuration is just before the secondary cats on the w211 e63, which I think it would be the same on the e55. I was inspecting the pipes thinking I could just gut the cats out with a long rod but it's way too deep to reach with the rods especially with the kinks. Best to leave it to professionals and do a straight pipe, they'll do a neat job and hassle free.20210918_115127.jpg

Be really interested in how the car will sound when you have this mod performed. Please post back your thoughts when you have done so. 👍

Has anyone had or thought of having cutouts on the exhaust. With an AMG V8. Or any MB V8 for that matter.

So with the cutouts open, it would be straight piped no flow through the rear boxes. But when closed, the flow will obviously go through the rear boxes as is the set up now. Not sure what a cutout option would be or cost . And possibly to much exhaust sound for some. Can have the best of both worlds then with the press of a button.

No worries, will do. This is how it sounds at the moment and how I think should have left the factory. Just need to go a notch more but not too obnoxious like removing the primary cats and stuff 👍

That sounds Beastly, really does sound nasty, in a good way. 👍

It's great how every V8 amg, different engined V8 can sound that little bit different from each other. With it being the 5.5 TT or the m156 of different models.
