Hey, All

I wondered if anyone had any tips or success stories for restoring the MB plastic badge grill disc thingy (possibly the distronic radar emitter?)
Pictured.

It's covered in lots of tiny scratches from I presume road stuff hitting it over the years.

Any reason lot to get an electric polisher on it? with some compound? try to get it back to more of a smooth finish...

Cheers!

Aaron

A can't tell if it's actually had a whack at some point and it's distressed the plastic internally... but still, would be nice to take off the surface scratches

Those are cracks from within the plastic (stress fractures).

You wont be able to polish them out im afraid, a replacement will be the only option.

As above

That's too far gone fella, you'll need to replace it

Thanks, Lads - Yeah, I'll look into it.
It's not actually the radar emitter itself right, it's just a piece of plastic that covers the electronic emitter underneath?

We know :) - The part number will be stamped on the back of it if you need to check with a dealership for prices :)

I'll check it out :D Ta!

You can also run the part number on eBay, and, if the plastic cover cannot be purchased separately, then you can also consider plugging the cracks and smoothing it then repainting, or if feasible, shrink-wrap - a lot of work, so a replacement one is obviously the better option.

Something to do in the spring, which will be the next time I clean my car!

Zally , you do realise you are on the 'detailing' section of the forum don't you ? You saying the next time your car is due for a clean is in the spring has caused a few 'detailers' reading this to faint and a few to reach for their inhalers . Don't let any of them know where you live or they will come around with pitchforks and blazing torches. Please be mindful of the sensibilities of others when posting :p:eek:;)

Mine was like yours with the star actually set within the whole plastic disc which I think they were as standard on the cls (mine). However when I replaced the grill with an after market one (for distronic) it came with a plastic disc with the star over the top. The distronic still works perfectly as before but I think the star looks a bit "crisper". Just as a matter of interest.

HA! Yeah the thought crossed my mind after posting it! - I promise my interiors are pristine, and I'll do the exterior as soon as it stops bloody raining! :D
