It won't have the loom, switches or control unit fitted as standard.

Choose the heating pads carefully!

Hi,

I bought Waeco MHS50 pads to do this on my W211, but my installer chap had no luck fitting these electric-blanket type elements into the leather seats - the padding is extensively bonded to the t-shaped support bars in the front seats, and so the elements apparently need to be cut (almost) into several parts, meaning you must use the carbon type heating pads (which can apparently be cut to shape without impacting the functionality).

This seems to be specific to W211, as I've read of lots of W203 people using the Waeco pads.

He did get it done for me (and a smashing job too), but just not with the Waeco pads.

To answer your direct question, I don't believe that any of the required parts explicit to heated seats will be present.

Let us know how it goes for you...

Cheers,
Eddie.

Thanks Jay, so does the t-bar go back in over or under the heating pad?

Thanks,
Eddie

what did you have to in stall?

Fast Eddie, did you use the OE switches? what else did you have to get as i have found a local breakers that can supply me with all the bits i need?? regards Will

Hi Will,

no OE switches I'm afraid, the installer used the switches that came with the pads - blurry photo attached where he fitted the switches alongside the electric seat adjustments. Flick down for "one bar" setting - moderate heat, flick up for "three bar" setting - high heat. Have to say I'm loving the warm seats, permanently on one-bar setting! There is also a middle setting for "off"...

I believe from reading up on it that you could possible attach non-OEM pads to the OEM swiches, but there are voltage and timing considerations that may make it more hassle than it's worth.

Let us know how it goes, photos if possible!

Cheers,
Eddie.

On the 211 the heated seats are worked by a control unit , this is located under the passenger seat . The switches for the front are on the upper control panel ,and the rear switches are on the window button .

Correct!! i have been in contact with a guy today who installs non OE pads to the seats but uses a OE heated seat control module (under passengers seat) and a loom that will fit the module and connect to a buzz bar that runs underneath the passenger door cill ? does that make sense then all i have to find is a ground? any comments gents? i will be buying the pads, module, loom from him £450 as i all reday have the switches, will be taken step by step pictures to tell all. the next step will be for the back seats?

There is an earth point at the front of the passenger foot well , under the pressed steel cover . this is where the oe loom earths . Are you fitting front and rear heaters ? I might be able to supply rear switches and wireing loom , but the pads have been cut .

yes i will start on the two front seats then look to get heat on the rear seats!! would be intrested in the loom & switches for the rear? the switches are on the same switch as the rear window switches placed in the handle of the door card, could you take some pictures of them? when you say the pads have been cut do you mean the pad itself or the wiring ? my email is [email protected] "what part of Ireland are you lads from, My parents are from the south Carlow & Tipperary my cousin plays for the Tipp hurling squard (Webster of Loughmore)

Hi Will,

you'd have to have some Irish blood in you with that name! I'm in Meath - poor hurling country, but we make do with some moderate Gaelic football success every few decades!

It's off topic, but always worth recommending hurling as a spectator sport to those who may not have seen it before...

Cheers,
Eddie

Im in Dundalk Will . The heated seat system was pulled from an estate that has been converted into a hearse . The pads have had the wires cut and it think they where then binned . The rear switches and loom have been kept . The button for the heating it on the same unit as the rear window switch , it would need the switch to be changed . I will ask tomorrow if the parts are going to be sold and how much the boss wants .

Just took a photo of the rear switches:
