Hi all, is it possible to retro fit air con to a w202? Would it be hellishly exepensive and/or a potential source of trouble if it is possible? And would benz do it or would I be better off with an independent or specialaist air-con outfit? Cheers.

Im new to the merc world myself but through past experiences working as a mechanic at ford, you will find air con systems are very expensive. Condensers alone are a couple of hundred, + the high pressure pipes, + air con pump itself + heater box and all other components, it all adds up and could potentially be very expensive and then there is the fitment charge itself and to fit an aircon system, there is a lot of labour time involved. To be fair I don't think its really worth all the hassle :(

Any such job is possible, but I would expect it to be prohibitively expensive unless you could locate a cheap, written-off W202 with aircon, from which to obtain most of the parts.

Would also take a significant amount of labour and resourcefulness to fit! How competent are you?

The most common method would to have a Diavia system fitted by one of their specialists. It's something I've been looking into for the C250 if I am going to hold onto it, but cost-wise it's in the region of £1500.

Not competent enough to attempt this! The cost sounds prohibitive too. I'll just have to keep the roof open.
