E500 (W212)
Went to purchase a new car seat for the growing offspring at the weekend and was a bit surprised to discover that my 2005 W211 E500 does not have Isofix anchor points behind the rear seats. The old “baby seat” was purchased when I still had the CLK320 (W202) and that did not have Isofix.

Lifting the seats up reveals slits in the “hard carpet” that the person in the car seat shop said are where they have seen the anchor points coming out from on other E classes of similar age. They then went on to suggest that I can have them retro fitted.

Rather than call Mercedes, I thought I’d put this one out to the wisdom of the forum first.

Is it possible to have the Isofix points retro fitted?

Thanks in advance. :thumb:

I would guess so.

My S211 is 2005 and that doesn't have isofix either. But I am sure it was an option at that time.

Basically it is a stout steel hoop which protrudes through the carpet mat slots as you rightly say. I would bet that the pre-tapped bolt holes are under there too for securing it all.

might be an easy retrofit.

Most manufacturers will have the body pre-drilled and usually captive nuts fitted for these types of optional extras, take up more floor covering, I expect the anchor points will be there

I'd be interested to see what the views of a Mercedes main dealer would be.

My better half bought a (shock horror!) new Ford Focus a few years back when Isofix was only an option. Good lady forgot to ask for it when she placed the order and only when the car was delivered said "oh sh1t no Isofix!" . The dealer arranged for it to be retrofitted (it was welded in place).

Good luck

This subject has come up on here a few times before and I'm sure people really didn't like the idea or recommend it. I have to say I agree, from what I've seen ISOFIX is only really of particular use with newborn seats which they quickly grow out of anyway, my daughter's second seat doesn't make use of ISOFIX so the problem no longer exists (my partner and I have a seat in each car anyway)

But I wouldn't recommend retrofitting/welding from anywhere other than Mercedes, but I'd expect Mercedes to tell you it isn't possible/recomended.

I too had a new focus as a company car, they also did not opt for isofix (even though it was a no cost option) I retro fitted it myself, they simply bolt on to the focus so I think you had some bs from the dealer about welding them in.

We did it on an 07 V70, Volvo sell you the brackets and bolts, takes 5 minutes to fit, piece of cake and only £13.

I suspect Mercedes will be similar.
