I'm new to this forum after I forked out for a 2006 W169 A170.
Can anyone tell me if a retrofit armrest is available for this model and if so, a url or contact would be appreciated.
Also looking for folding electric mirrors for this model. Any ideas please???

Welcome

Can't help re armrest, although I am sure its do-able- best source one from dismantlers

Re mirrors- you will need;
folding mirrors
folding mirror capable door modules(control units)
new window/mirror switch for drivers door
-To do this through a dealer will be a joke(silly money) & they may even tell you its not doable. To do with new parts yourself will probably cost best part of £1K! Even with second hand/ebay parts will be v expensive & you will probably need to keep an eye out for some time to get all the parts you need.... (unless you find a car at a scrappies with everything on it you need)

If you don't have one already, a simple, quick & most satisfying upgrade is to fit a dimming rear view mirror which is simply 'plug & play'.
BTW, a lot of parts on the W169, including (afaik) the mirrors, are also used on the W245(B class), so you can also search ebay for B class parts to fit onto A class.

Silver or blue(Osram diadem) indicator bulbs also look better on the front imho to get rid of the 'egg yolk' look.

Try to get some pics of your car on if you can :)

Thanks for the info. Its just what I feared. The tip about B Class is really useful

Plug and Play mirror for A-class

Hi Smatt, hope you see this, as your post was a little while ago. How easy is it to put in the auto-dimming mirror. Just how plug and play is it? Is it self explanatory with a non-car-disassembly kind of person armed with a screw driver? How do you get power to the thing, I guess there is power up there already for the sunroof control, but how do you plug the mirror into that. Hope you can help. Thanks, Andrew

Dimming Rear View Mirror A B or C class

It is very simple, although my experience is from the C-class, but I am fairly sure it will be similar for the B class. We already had dimming in our B. I will try to have a look at the B though to see if there are any differences in the procedure. Alfie on this forum may be able to help as he has an A class which he has heavily upgraded.

Pull old mirror off by pulling down & twisting to L or R at same time.
Remove overhead control panel (remove forward plastic lens, slide 2 retaining clips forward, then panel should fall out). This thread may be further help, but again applies to C class.
Pass lead from new dimming mirror through the roof lining & plug into the free slot(all slots are different, so it will only fit into one slot) in the control panel, which provides power.
Then re-attach light panel & re-attach mirror. Re-attaching the mirror may be the hardest part (see this thread for more info)!

There is no further adaptation needed as long as you get the right mirror for your car. It will work straight away!
