Anyone had any experiences with retrofit Parking sensors from MB dealers. Which ones are best? Electromag or ultrasonic.

My understanding is that the MB retrofit parktronic is ultrasonic. With the electromag ones, you need to check construction of the bumper. Some MB bumpers have the inner casing plastic welded to outer casing which means that the only electromag ones which fit are those which attach to outside of bumper; these look awful.

This is definitely electronics section material...moving! :)

Thanks for ur reply Foye,

The ultrasonic is via MB dealer and the electromag is via non-MB dealer. Does the new E Class have plastic casing welded? I would assume the electromag would assume plastic materials. However with the electromag type u get away with the drilling of bumper and painting of sensors.

The sensors may be used in garage and a 25cm-30cm sensitivity may be required.

One of these electromag type parking gadgets would make for a neat, simple fit if the sensing strip would fit behind the part of the bumper that is seperate to the main part-the horizontal bit that goes around the bumper that is about 50-60mm wide and appears to be just snapped into place(or is it). So,does anyone know how this part comes off?(its the bit that has the chrome strip on some models)

I thought the electromag one's only work when the car is in motion so if you stop the car moving while parking, the sensor doesn't react anymore. Also, someone told me that they take a second or two to react so you could hit something before the buzzer goes off!

I've just fitted Cobra Parktronic ultrasonic sensors in my CLK. These can be painted and seem to work very well.

Did u use an MB dealer or specialist. I think with colour coding only MB will get it right cos they have the stock colours for bumper.

I've been quoted about 300 for rear only type.
Electromags do only work when ur moving, but not sure how safe they are cf to ultrasonic type

Fuzzer ,

Its the new E class 4.84m. I'm upgrading from the Honda which is quite small relatively. So yes i do need them for tight parking spaces especially at work and city parking.

Hi adam1,

I bought them from In Car Discount (http://www.incardiscount.co.uk/acatalog/Shop_Reversing___Parking_Aids_58.html#a1219). Sorry, they are called 'Parkmaster'. They cost £100 plus post and packing. I then had to buy a hole cutter (20mm for £12) and went to a specialist paint shop who mixed the paint for me in a small spray can. The sensors are mounted on a piece of card so that you can spray them and the kit comes with 'spacers' to protect the rubber ring in the sensor from getting sprayed.

Incidently, the CLK bumper already had the marking on the bumper for where the sensors shoud go.

My CLK Cab has cr*p rear visibility. I fitted the MB 'Quickparc' system. It cost approx £250, but is pukka MB (Bosch?) and can be fitted at home in 2-3 hours. The biggest job is removing the bumper - and carefully cutting the holes! You get a trendy audio/visual display unit which mounts in the rear nearside trim panel (so you can see it when you have your head screwed round whilst reversing).
It's excellent - I would recommend it to anyone. I painted the sensors black (car colour) with a halfords aerosol, the complete system looks original fit.

Thanks Paul and Max for ur advise.

I have asked for a MB product but mB dealers only have the X vision -on MB and charge 400 for rear and 600 for both F/R.

I have also enquired from Honda/Toyota dealers who fit parking sensors to non-Honda-toyota cars thye have quoted 230-250 inclusive for 3rd eye from Toyota and Tronique from Honda(this one is electromag). I have no experience in wiring anything so will leave to experts ( I can't see myself meddling with the new car) and will get 12 months warranty from these guys.

I was a bit concerned if the Honda/toyota know how to deal with an E class since it has many Elec components. I fear that they may do something which will bring on the elect gremlins....but can such a simple task as attaching wire to rear lights cause that.

Also wonder if the dealers will know what to do with the bumper....honda chap plans on taking it off and putting string inside while Toyota dealer will drill holes in it.

Paul is the parkmaster an mB product...how do u order it and who fits it.

Adam, the W211 Accessories book does have 'Quickparc parking aid' complete kit listed. Is that the same as the dealer mentioned? The price just says 'TBA' its about the only thing in the book without a price!

I'm interested in buying the aftermarket Merc Parktronic for my CLK. Thing is they're quoting 8 odd hours labour to fit (incl. painting etc). I'm pretty sure it shouldn't take this long...

I know there's a guy on the forum that installs Commands, is there anyone who might install the Parktronic, fo rless than 8 hours?!

Thx

Basically, any workshop, anywhere should be able to fit it in literally a few minutes. 8 hours is just silly :)

I belive the laserline system is very good and can be painted .

rears are around £300 + VAT , front & rear around £600 + VAT prices are for supply & fit & painted.

or supply only - buy direct

I know of a couple of installers in the london area . PM me for more info.

I think u have to order from dealers....i have seen many good products like Quanan, Veba(OEM type) but if u order direct u have to get local garage to fit it. Not sure if Merc or other dealers will fit sensors u order directly...that would be ideal....if things go wrong they'll blame the product instead ...so best get it from them/fitted then its there fault if it goes funny.

Looked at 3rd eye.4 sensor type(korean product i think) suppied thro Toyota dealer and fitted with 2 years warranty and colour coded..painted with Merc colour...all for 233 quid fitted for rear only. It gives continous tone at 30cm which should help in garage too.

The Merc system(W211 accessories) is available but dealer will not fit since he has the X-vision type without display for 400 quid rear only. I've been told the Mb type would take too long..and too expensive labour cost.

not heard of Quickpark type, Laserline is as good as quanan and Veba but need someone to fit it and give solid gurantee only francise dealers can do that.
