Is it possible to retrofit the Rain sensing wipers on my 2003 registered W203

I saw that its a £90 option on the face lifted model.

I have some sensors in the windscreen so I am gusessing that I only need a control module. Is this the case?

yes , ive got the part number somewhere for the sensor

thanks fuzzer, do you know how much it is?

I wouldn't be too bothered as they are pretty crap in my opinion!

I have to be fair - the rain sensing wipers are good on my car (probably because they are on the correct setting and work when they should at the right speed...)

how do u adjust the sensor for the rain sensors? got it installed on my W210 but never quite understood how to adjust it.

Something that the stealers are only able to adjust. I have had cars that the setting was just too sensitive (its pot luck...). I'm glad that that the setting on my current car is perfect (even the ladies that sit in the passenger seat are amazed by just how good this feature is... ;) )

Mercedes Rain Sensing Wipers: Wipes when dry, hot & sunny; do not always wipe when light rain (need to turn on manually), fooled when windsreen sprayed by passing lorry=does not wipe for upto 10 seconds=scary when driving at night. Verdict: Being back to dealer for 'adjustment' but still no better. Now always set to manual wipe mode!

VW Golf Rain Sensing Wipers: Perfection. Set once when car was new and never touched again in 4 years: came on when you needed them--in fact never noticed how good they were until we tried the Merc ones......

Seems like its horses for course then.

Must admit I'm pleased with the rain sensor on my '210. The only thing I'd like it to do is speed up if the rain intensifies (eg when a lorry passes), or slows down when you come to a halt.

Strangely, my 500SL does slow the wipe speed down if you slow down.....

My MB is perfect (rain sensing wipers...). A family friend took deivery of a VW Golf recently... (rain sensing wipers all over the place... and still are...). Its down to pot luck.

I agree too...probably made by Bosch or some other component supplier. But at least the VW ones were adjustable by user for sensitivity: M-B ones need a visit to the stealer to adjust the sensitivity....or at least they do on a W203.

Shame this feataure is not availabe on the W203 but may be it shall on the next generation C class/other models. Is yours the new current shape Mark 5 Golf? Mind you, unless you at least opt for a Gollf "SE" pack then the options/spec are pretty poor i.e. no headlamp locators/alarm available on new golf unless it is an "SE" BUT all W203s have this feature. I'm not too sure about the alarm 100% on the new Golf though.

So is it possible to have the windscreen changed for the one with the activation sensor ,then retrofit the relay and switch for a full rain sensing wiper system.
As the only difference to the ML Mk1 and face lift is the sensing sensor at the top of the screen.

If this is so, If i need to have the front screen changed at anytime, It is worth having the Mk2 screen fitted, As it gives me the option to fit the rain sensing system.

Sorry if this is encrouching on the lead thread but i thought it was worth asking within the confinds of the thread.

Our golf was the old Mk IV type, 1999 model, 1.6SE, now sold. Funny thing is that although the new C-Class is a much more powerful car, and comes with the gizmos, my wife thinks it is nothing special. She prefers her old Golf 'that never rattled'. It was my idea to change it for a Merc, and I really do regret it. I think it was the visits to the dealer about the paintwork defects (delaminating lacquer on bonnet; peculiar 'crop circles' 2 ins in diameter on roof. All done at the factory appraently) that did it for me and my wife.

My facelifted W203 has auto lights, but not auto wipers - which is a bit of a pain becasue the intermittant wipe isn't variable. I've had auto wipers on my Peugeot 406's for years and they always worked fine.

The sensor's obviously there for the lights, do the wipers use another sensor, or is it the same one? I'm sure I read somewhere that on some MB's, auto wiping can be enabled in software.

Centre, top edge of the windscreen behind the RVM.

Some R171 SLKs come with the sensor but not enabled.
