I've just bought a CL600 (Dec 2000) and it doesn't have a TV. Can this be fitted retrospectively? Also the screen says 'No CD' but in fact it looks like teh CD crdale is is stuck as it won't pop up. I am in Hatfield, Hertfordshire - does anyone know a local specialist.

Yes it can be fitted. However on a car like that I would suggest paying for only 100% new parts to be supplied .... which makes the cost significant.

The CD problem sounds rather like a common problem with navigation of that vintage. Given the age .... the CD drive can not be replaced as it is a highly mechanical assembly. However replacement navigations are reasonably priced.

Thanks Miro. Do you have any idea of what parts are needed? I'm completely new to this. Is it just a tuner and wiring loom? Any idea of part numbers - I see you are a bit of an expert on these systems :)

The Navgation CD is in the slot in the dashboard and works fine. The stuck CD is in the magazine in the boot. I am hoping I can take it out and release whatever is jammed. Again advice is welcome.

It is a NFFS job = Not for faint stomach.

In order to fit the wiring harness and rear antenna the trim of the interior more or less has to come out. Not to metion the odd seat too.

You would be best off driving to Netherlands as I dont know anyone who is dedicated enough to this kind of work in your area other than Steve in NL. On the bright side the CL has amazingly good trim and it comes out easily with the right handling.

I managed to take out the CD, strip it down and unjam the mechanism. It is working know so hopefuly it will remain so.

Can anyone give me the part number of the TV Tuner and/or wiring loom for a 200 CL600, or point me in the direction of where I might find this. I have seen some tuners for sale in the States and need to check that they are the right part number.

From what I undertsand the TV is the same unit for all standards (NTSC, PAL etc) but if anyone can confim this it would be great.

Are you going to use Benz parts or are you going Quasi-Motor brands.

I was going to try and find an original tuner on eBay if I could find the MB part number and then get a harness the same way. If you have either part number it would be appreciated.

There are 2 suitable tuners for your car, one with NTSC support (for USA) and one without. The advantage of the NTSC tuner is that it has RCA inputs for connecting 2 additional video sources, whereas the older one has special connectors for that.

Old type, no NTSC : A220 820 15 97
New type, cant find the part number, but here is a picture

The other available tuners are for MOST cars (new ones) or ones with 16x9 screens. The 16x9 ones look identical to the others, the MOST ones have different power connectors.

There are also 2 wiring loom types, one with rear TV screen support and one without, If you ever think you are going to buy the rear TV screen and add it, then buy/fit the loom with rear TV support.
- your dealer should have no hastle looking that one up on his EPC system.

I did once have that loom, but I cant remember what I did with it, may have stripped it down :-(

You may also need additional aerial amps for the TV aerials in your rear windscreen - there were 4 in my CLK which went in the 4 corners behind the side panels (had to replace the original 1 that was there for FM/AM) - as I had bought car with COMAND it had rear windscreen with aerials in it.
