To any E55 owners - has anyone any experience of fitting some of the optional extras to the car at this late stage, specifically -

    keyless go
    powered tailgate
the 6th and 7th seats in the boot
    tyre pressure sensors

    Cheers

    Nick

Would have thought the keyless go would be a massive undertaking personally?

Four door handles with the sensors need sourcing, plus the boot/tailgate handle with keyless button, gearshifter with the start/stop button on it, plus the receivers for door handles to work and no doubt a load of wiring and coding/control units?

TPMS probably quite costly too? Sensors in all four wheels plus receivers in each arch I think, again plus coding and whatever else - although I think there's a more basic tyre pressure loss function that can be coded to regular cars.

The powered tailgate may be a little easier? Obviously will involve quite a bit of fitting still.

By comparison I would think the seats would be easier to swap - bolt in and bolt out job?

My advice would be to look out for a car with a good spec - probably won't cost an awful lot more than a standard/lower specced one

I looked at retro fitting Keyless go, Linguatronic, and Distronic in my CLS55, I investigated the keyless go and it is a massive undertaking possible yes but a massive amount of work lots and lots of parts as Will above has alluded to above, and even if by some chance you manage to get the bits second hand you would still need a new keys.
I haven't completely dismissed it but will only consider it if I can source 80%-90% of the parts from one source, in one go.
Linguatronic, can be retro fitted and kits are out there with instructions to do it but for something that is rarely used and most people think is useless anyway its expensive (four figures for the CLS).
I have however retro fitted Distronic, I did think this was the most complicated of the lot but it has proved to be one of the easiest retro fits possible.
Any of the fits you mentioned can be done but it all depends how deep you're pockets are.

    Cheers for all that.

The powered tailgate is the one I'm most interested in TBH as its the one thing I miss about my previous car. The others are nice to haves really but not that fussed if too complex to do.

Car is pretty fully specced apart from these so will just live with the hell of putting the key in the ignition!!!

Would the software based tyre pressure loss system not suffice? Could be as simple as just coding in the option..

Give the guys at Comand based in Lightwater a bell, they would be able to tell you if it's possible.

I know that this isn't answering your OP, and you were specific, so I apologise. But have you considered '63 boxes to improve the soundtrack?

I hear that they are a cracking good mod to a '55 ;)

Think I'm going to keep the car in stealth mode.

If I do any exhaust work it will be delete primary cats and kleeman (or other long tube) headers.

Haha you have picked all the difficult options to go for :D

I have only fitted distronic, easy pack boot system, side cargo net and tree nails in mine. My car came with the options I was looking for, keyless go and power boot lid.

Yep - was just interested to see how doable they are.

Doesn't look like the TPM is that difficult or expensive to do.

The powered tailgate will be interesting to see it its doable.

I like the idea of the extra seats but wonder how much would ever use them and they obviously weigh a lot.

Would never use distronic and got the cargo net etc

To be honest I don't think the rear 6/7th seats weigh much at all - they are pretty small and lightweight and even without the option you still have the load area floor access panels fitted. You can lift the panels out with the cushions etc attached and they feel light - a few kg at most.

Probably less weight than stuff like the mechanisms and motor for the powered tailgate or a spare wheel! :)

I haven't used them on either of my E55s yet, but I have done on previous E class estates.

    In fact I've had six - 2x 124s, 2x 210s and now 2x 211s - all have had seven seats.

I guess from a resale point of view and for convenience it's a nice option to have :thumb:
