Obviously, a reversing camera is primarily about the view immediately aft of the vehicle, but how far back can they view?
I'm thinking about one as it would afford me more visibility on leaving my driveway as from the driver's seat the mirrors can't quite see past an obstacle that a rear mounted camera could. But I'm looking for an accurate (read in focus) view for circa 100m.
Also, would such a camera fitted with lights just create flare in the dark obscuring a view of the distance?

In essence, I'm looking for something to behave like a rear view mirror but from a different vantage point.
TIA.

And, just to complicate things further, it will likely have to be behind (or ahead of more correctly) the rear screen which is largely vertical but has a heavy tint. That would kill off lights - but do some have infra red?

Factory reversing cameras only see a few feet. Rear view dash cams see a lot further but no camera have a range of 0-100m in focus *and* no dash-cam can see 100m with their tiny lenses.

What car have you got, does it have a nice big colour Satnav screen and does it have a reversing camera already ?

Well that's a steep learning curve for me, cheers! Better I know now.

Steady on Sir! It's a barge from the mid 1990s. On the dash is a cassette player. And auxiliary power sockets for gadgets as yet uninvented.

I must admit I’m impressed with the MB camera on my GLC, you can see a lot more either side of your rear in comparison to the one in my S212

Ah, I was hoping it had a nice screen and you could connect some-kind of camera that was enough for you to see cars hurtling toward you - so then you could pop it in and out of reverse and have the "rearview" camera display until you reached 4-5mph !

Electric cars are beginning to appear with cameras replacing both the interior and exterior mirrors, but I guess the OP is after something that looks sideways - the only car I'm aware of that can do that is RangeRover, and that does it at front only.

I got a rearview mirror mounted reversing camera which has impressive resolution and incl even in the dark but will have nowhere near 100m range as it is more about wide view. it may be possible to ofcourse fit a narrower view long range camera if that's your priority.

Lindley Lane?
