RHD AMG Hammer...and NOT Vlad's!

Anyone got a spare £25k they don't want? I want THIS Mustang.

I wish!

That Mustang does look good :(

Just my personal opinion, but I have a feeling that its going to have a standard M117 560 engine in it. The car would have been converted by Strattons the AMG Agents at the time. If its a genuine AMG Factory conversion then it will have an AMG build plate on the slam panel.

My car started off life as a 200...but was taken straight from MB in Germany to the AMG factory where they stripped off all of the mechanicals, hence the reason why it was a 200....all of the running gear, engine, autobox and suspension got junked and replaced with the 32v 5.0 engine, S Class gearbox, SL/AMG suspension and brakes, AMG Exhaust, Gleeson rear diff etc etc.

I would be surprised if the one being offered by Coys has been so heavily modified...if it is and the AMG provenance can be authenticated then its starting to look quite interesting, but its not the black 560 32V Quad Cam Hammer that was used in various road tests in the late 80's, ie @ 1987.

With this in mind, it is not a true Hammer, which is why I suspect that there are no photos of the engine.... but its not far off being the real thing !

Me too. If only that damn divorce hadn't cost me so much... :(

know what you mean...could have had a few for that price...such is life:(

Whats its worth?

What someone is willing to pay for it.....

This is not a normal car simply because of previous ownership.

Without interesting owners I'd say it was still valued at more than a good 500E - but that's due to it being an agent AMG car.

If this were a genuine Hammer, how big is your cheque book.....but it's not, what it is, is an interesting agent conversion with provenance...

I'll hazard a guess it goes for £30K something....

Whats its worth?

Thats the big question.... its previous owners are likely to add more worth to the sale price than the car itself, and with peoples irrational lust for all things "Celebrity", it could go for a completely stupid price.

Tell you what is interesting ....

AMG's figures for the 1988 5.5 litre is 360 bhp ...

Current 5.5 litre ( N/A ) AMG engines put out roughly the same amount ...

Hasn't come on much has it ? , loads of fancy carbon fibre engine covers and name plates , but the output is more or less the same ....

Actually you're not wrong, my 560 runs about 300 hp with a single cam 2 valve head untuned and completely unstressed. When the new engine goes in my car I'll not do much to it other than quality plugs, a decent air intake system, custom exhaust, and that's likely to be running a little over 300 hp at that point.

I imagine Navs must be around the 330 hp with just an AMG cam change and similar bits that I suggested above...

Probably the power deliver on the newer engines is a whole world more efficient plus fuel consumption especially at cruising.

In a similar vein, I noticed a similar thing with the 320 engine. My 3.2 24v straight 6 engine produces 220bhp and 219 lb/ft, when factory fresh. The next generation 18v 3.2 V6 put out 218bhp, with 221lb/ft of torque - this being used in various Mercs (granted more power 3.7 incarnation in some) until the 3.5 24v V6 came out, IIRC.

It seemed strange that a next generation V6 engine couldn't better the old straight six in the power stakes. I think it was more economical, though???

Is it true that modern engines sacrifice peak performance in the interests of lowering emissions?

Well they're fitted with cats., for a start!

Bung those on a 1988 engine and see what the power output is then ;)

Absolutely for example one major design feature of lowering emissions was a move from 4 valves per cylinder to 3 on the V6 AND V8 engines.

Well what an interesting night at the Coys auction......see my new posting in the main section...I might be of interest!

I'm trying to place where that house is in Richmond.

Doesn't look familiar.

I'm not convinced it is in Richmond. The only streets I can think of that it may be off and looks slightly familiar is Sandpits Road, off Petersham Rd or maybe Bute Ave off Sudbrooke Lane??
