Hello,

My father in law has recently bought a C220 CDI Sport which has some heavy wear to the seat as seen below (not the best picture I admit):

I believe the seat is half cloth and half artico. Well anyway, the artico bolster has ripped and some of it has even come off.

Any ideas on what to do with this? We're based near Leeds so any recommendation of companies who do this sort of work would help.

Thanks!

Might be worth asking your local dealer who they use?

This has happened to my artico/dynamica seat too. Looks like wear and tear where the driver swivels to get out of seat. Need to speak to my local dealer also.

Just starting to similar issues to driver seat bolster at 70k, almost as if starting to peel away from sub-layer. Not severe yet but will likely get worse so If I find any previous solution will post it here.

Several threads this forum, mainly referring to MB dealer or specialist repairer.
Some on BenzWorld, suggesting try a vinyl repair kit.
I'll try a kit first as small peel currently, photo and post.
Cheers

Had this on my B Class and for the section retrimmed in real leather. Cant even tell

Just get the bolster retrimmed with leather. If the original material isn't up to the job why use it again.

Thanks for the reply guys.

I've asked around and a few "Leather Specialists" said they could do it but couldn't get the grain back. They quoted between £80-120.

I was then told by an honest leather repairer that its vinyl, hence the repair job will be shoddy and he pointed me in the direction of AS Pickering in Bradford.

After speaking to them over the phone, they have the actual Artico material and will remove the seat and retrim for the same price as repairing. Bit of a no brainer to be honest. Once the car comes back from wheel refurb it'll be booked in with them. They've done loads and mainly do it for MB Bradford.

From what I can tell, MB used to use bad quality artico between 2011 and 2015. The newer stuff is more flexible but has the same grain so won't look any different

Yes, I have a tiny wear mark on the side of the driver's seat near the seam, caused by the seatbelt.

I was quite surprised to see it, because I always knew MB-Tex/Artico to be very durable.

My car is 2013... what you are saying explains this :(

It has been pretty poor for some time, loads of W164 MLs with the sport interior show signs of bad wear too.

I used a adhesive patch repair for mine. Was about £15 and although noticeable was good quality.

It's a straightforward job for a trimmer. They do it all the time for "classics" of all descriptions. Don't bother with a main agent, they'll just take a commission and sub it out.

Trim repairs are not for the amateur. A pro will do it very cheaply to a standard you'll never match yourself.

Why are ML's reporting more issues? Because they're US made to suit a US domestic clients - those cars just wouldn't pass muster in the European market compared to something out of Sindelfingen.
