Got this device 2 weeks ago.Has been updated at weekend.Driving today I got numerous warnings about mobile vans, but none about. Are these mobiles set to a specific position as alerted by road angel but not always there.i.e can be there at anytime or can they turn up anywhere.I am confused about these alerts.

Yes Barry , thats the only way that they can work on mobile sites,, if you get the other pick up that goes on the front, that will pick up active mobile checks

The Plus version has this built in I believe

How do you find it otherwise as I am getting one shortly

I thought current Road Angels et al did not have laser pick-up options, because they are soon to be made illegal? That's why I stick with my Origin B2 (with laser pick-up ;) ).

I have the leaflet in my hand now as I type the laser is standard on the "plus" and an option on the "compact"

The law making the illegal debate has been going on for years, at least 10

I would suggest that any laser detector isnt worth the money. I say this becuase by the time the laser hits your car, its too late. I am unaware of any device that can detect photons without looking almost straight at the source. Maybe i'm wrong.

There can be a lot in what Alfie says, as we know a laser is a dead straight line, as we also know, a signal can only be bounced back off a true vertical surface, the guy pointing this thing at you only has the number plate to sight onto, even if the beam is enough to set off the warning in the road angel,it would only be milli seconds before the operator got a reading, so too late.

I 'think' it may have save my bacon once. In the dark, on the A3, it started beeping wildly. I was only doing 70, but slowed as a precaution ;) . Sure enough, up ahead on the hard shoulder was a dark blue Volvo estate, with someone leaning on the roof holding what looked like a hair-drier  .

But I certainly get more alerts from other sources than speed cameras.

If you are getting a new Road Angel Malcolm it will be worth waiting for the New one. I also hate extranious wires so would like to integrate it as much as possible. Will be interested in how you intend to do it. Clearly the unit has to have line of sight to the speed camera which in turn means its on the dash. How will an antenna under the dash work? Also how do you intend to get power to it ( could use the RA battery power but seems unreliable )
I see the unit being between the two cowlings of the speedo & rece counter as a neat place (all curves) but dont want a butchery job on install

Look forward to your comments:)

My laser alert has saved me, or at least saved me from potentially making a situation worse. In theory the chances are slim though.

I though the lazer units were quite sensitive to being triggered off by other devices other than speed trap guns ?

I found it much cheaper to buy a TomTom , then upload the camera sites as POI's...Gatso, Specs, Mobile, Temp etc....it works in a similar way to a Roadangel, having previously owned one, but I also got sat nav into the bargain too.

The alerts tell you for possible camera sites, thus making you aware of any possible speed cameras ahead. :)

The ashtray is a good place on the SL by using the additional laser pickup behind the gril that would work on the hand held and a Sat antenna under the plastic of the dash for the rest.
I would use a hard wired powered supply,,I can make my own as all stock parts

bit early to tell.So far has not given me thought "that was good, van parked there,Glad it told me".Does tell all cameras though. It is a plus,so yet to see how it works overall.

It has good battery life,so no charging wires needed.i have no need for extra antenna, seems to work fine through windscreen

Its called "Roadangel Professional" and they are taking registrations of interest on their website

http://www.roadangel.co.uk/

i am told its due out within the next few weeks but no definite date (end of March...see site below)

http://www.road-angel-blackspot.com/

it looks very different to the existing model. Its the integrated SIM i'm concerned about as this may result in a high running cost unless they've cut a deal with a Mobile provider

Any info gratefully received before I buy....it may also make the existing (obsolete?) model cheaper!
