road angel alerts

I think it depends on how much mileage you do "away from Home". If you are going to areas all over thecountry on business then the cost is worth it. If just local and you go to the trouble of regular updates at home PC then its probably best to go for the Roadangel plus. I want to see it first!

Fair comment so we can wait a bit,,thank you so much for the info

For those of you who transit or live in Northamptonshire are you aware that there is a website detailing the location of mobile cameras updated monthly for each day in advance....so you have been warned. If you intend to do a trip across the area its worth checking!

Here's the Nottinghamshire site for checking where the cameras are going to be for the next few weeks.

I use the Garmin -who make lots of aircraft electronics. I've been very impressed both with the satnav, which to my surprise I have found better than COMAND, and with the speed camera alert system.

All police forces have to notify where they will be putting mobile units. No need to go to individual county websites. Just plug the Garmin into your computer and their update software updates the camera sites (fixed and mobile for the whole UK). Only pay £29 per year for the safety camera service.

(I just plug into cigarette lighter socket for power but you can hardwire). Comes with PIN number so no point in anyone pinching it.

Driving along in France we got the mobile site warning gong and message and about a few hundred yards later there was a woman PC holding the gun up towards us. Very useful.

BTW the fact that you can take it out of the car and keep it in your pocket is very handy. In France, when we parked in strange towns, we just saved the position and went off exploring and then used the Garmin to direct us back to where we had left the car. We also used it to find restaurants, garages, hotels, places of interest etc which are all listed.

So easy to update, not just cameras, but maps too by going to their website and downloading the appropriate updates.

Which model do you use? I may get one instead of the Road angel and use it just for the speed camera data
Garmin nuvi 660. Terrific.

And I meant to mention that unlike COMAND which only takes part of the potscode, the Garmin takes the full 7 part postcde. So simple.

Got a dissapointing reaction (or no reaction as was the case) from the road angel this morning.Heading North to Aberdeen I was flashed by an oncoming car so slowed down.Ahead was a roadside Van with Camera. Not a peep from the road Angel. It was updated last week.I feel it has somehow let me down.Anyone else had this reaction? Is there something I am not doing or am I expecting too much.
It alerts me alot to everything but nothing there,But the 1 time there is a van I get zip.

How many days since you updated. Maybe the police change details a day or two before your incident. I don't knowe how we can find out on what date our local police change their sites and notifications.

just saw this thread, I got a RA Plus for xmas, and so far its been pretty spot on with all the fixed camaras and blackspots. obviously with mobile camara vans it will tell you where they normally are, but mobile camara vans are not picked up by the sensors as far as i can tell, the location is what you are alerted on.

as malcolm mentioned, the ashtray is a good place to mount, you can mount the sensor in the grill, but i need to call blackspot to ask if the external sensor can pick up rear laser like the main unit can. if so then a descrete mount of the external sensor on your windscreen\dash may be appropriate! At the moment im still using the windscreen mount, battary life is good so far as the unit switches off when it doesnt detect movement.

ive got a few long drives coming up over the next 6 months so i will try and update this thread

Having had Road Angel's for a number of years now I've found they never really work for the mobile sites. I think there are just too many possible sites they could use. I don't think its ever warned me of a spot where there has actually been a mobile speed trap.

Try the Garmin. Mine has been spot on.

I've just emailed roadangel and this was their response:

Good Afternoon

i am sorry to say the New Road Angel does not have mobile sites.

Thanks

I've asked them to clarify which models do have mobile sites.

Their further response:
thanks for your e-mail.

Unfortunately the Road Angel you own along with the Road Angel Classic, being
older style models they do not have enough memory to store the camera van
locations on the database of the device. All of our other Road Angel devices do
have the camera van database which is capable of picking up locations of where
camera vans do park up and target vehicles are Road Angel Plus, Compact,
Navigator, 6000, 7000, 9000, Professional and Professional connected.

That explains why mine never beeps for mobile spots!

I used to use Garmin Nuvi with pocket GPS database downloaded...since having had COMAND I of course no longer use the Garmin but was considering the Novus range of camera locators or the Pogo or I believe the Snooper range - any one have any experience of these - non sat nav versions as I dont want two women telling me what to do ...:D

My talex has never let me down. And all possible mobile sites have been picked up.

Am I right that Talex is now taken over by Novus? Which model do you use? Does it have its own battery or does it need to be wired to the cigarette socket / hard wired

you are right it has been taken over. it needs to be wired in
