No doubt every interested party will put whatever spin they want on these figures.

I would be interested in how many insurance claims for accident repairs are made each year. That would at least give an indication of whether there are less accidents.

I go with your hinted point, cars are getting much safer, the chances of being killed or receiving a serious injury or less likely because of safety technology being designed into newer vehicles.

Standard ABS today (pioneered in the S-class of course) must have made a huge difference.

Given that the number of cars on the road is ever increasing, to have the lowest ever recorded road deaths is quite an achievement, and shows that government should be prioritising (?) other 'crimes' and not speeding with the vengeance that they have.
