Roadsie Recovery Reccomendations?

I've not used any recovery services for 10 years of company car driving so am somewhat out of the loop. I want to cover two cars, my wifes 11 year old MX5 and my 5 year old CLK.

In theory my CLK is covered by Mobilo (I think), as it has full dealer history with the Mobilo box ticked every time. However I'd rather not put that to test when I'm in a situation needing help to have somebody tell me there is a get out clause or similar.

So does anybody have any particular recomendations for good companies or warnings of poor service?

Having looked purely from a cost point of view the "Green Insurance Company" look very good, at under £60 per car including 60 days European cover. The European cover is nice but not essential, we usually spend 20 - 30 days a year driving in Europe.

Hello

Check you don't already have it with your Bank?

Ours covers us, ok its not free but one of the many benifits we get with it.

Hmmm

Be very wary of Insurance companies that bundle recovery with your insurance. Equity Red Star & Green Flag etc. I was with the AA for years and regret leaving them.

The things to watch out for are:

Do they recover you and yours to where you want to get to at no cost to you?
Where do they recover your car to?
Do they charge at the roadside?
Do they have exclusions (accident as opposed to Breakdown)

When my cover failed to materialise at the roadside and was stranded it took weeks to get resolved. AON blamed Equity Red Star, who blamed Green Flag, who blamed AON etc.

I think that the AA's policy is very straight forward and you have no need to be concerned about others in the chain.

Mobilo is actually very good. The cover runs from the last main dealer service til the next one is due.
Have always found the RAC very good. They have a good discount for members of the official MB club and also dont charge a supplement for older cars for EU cover. Full all year round EU cover for the 124 was just under £200. Most others wont touch cars that old.

Maybe not what you're looking for but I have been with these for the last five years and only £38. If you breakdown just call the number, they will send recovery and you pay the recovering company. Then autoaid send you a claim form and you get all your money back.

i can remember exactly but mobilo even if you have it wont be good enough (if you want comprehensive cover). there are some restrictions after a certain age of the car. i doubt it will cover anything else then a mechanical failure on car your age.
for example they didnt cover us when the drivers door wouldnt close. and im sure they said it wont cover running out of gas, puncture etc. we have a 2006 c class.

Autonational Rescue is very good. We have 2 cars ( Hyudai I 10 and my SLK 230 ) with comprehensive cover for £99.00 p.a.

Insurance choice my CLK just over £30 year full roadside recovery even after an accident, only used them once and they were there in 20 mins

If you search I have posted before about them with details of comparisons I did

check out GEM I am covered for both my car and van and any car I am in even as a passanger, great price too.

+1

My other half get's a further discount through her work but still a cracking deal for both of us to start with.

They've been very good as well when tested (once I think so far).

RAC have always failed to deliver when my other half tested them - more than once.

With 3 vehicles 'personal' cover works best for me & Mrs BTB. For both of us in any vehicle (even as a passenger) it's about £90 a year with the RAC IIRC. Have used them a couple of times, no problems at all.

For the CLK I would stick to Mobilo-Life as it's a very good package which you have already paid for.
I didn't have any cover for many years but decided to take some out with Admiral and have used it twice. Both time the service was very efficient.

Don't bother with the AA as their customer service went down the pan after private equity stripped the company
