anybody listening to Radio 2 Ken Bruce this morning about 11.35. I was tootling along at about 35 in a 40 zone when he played Hawkwind's Silvermachine. It brought back memories of the 70's and Camdens Roundhouse and I whacked up the volume. Next thing I know I'm doing 60, whoah steady boy think about that clean licence.
Hawkwind - Radio 2 !! it shouldn't be allowed

Remember seeing them in Doncaster when Ginger Baker did a stint on the drums for them' classic. But back to driving I had a very similar thing to Def Leppards Animal. As a Barnsley lad you'll appreciate i just been sent the Saxon Trilogy absolutely fantastic :D

The most 'dangerous' piece of music I had in the car many years ago was a tape of movie themes : I always seemed to end up driving too fast when John Barry's 'James Bond Theme' came on

Hawkwind - Cosmic.

I met them backstage at Manchester Apollo when I was 18ish.

Dave Brock
Harvey Bainbridge
Ginger Baker

My uncle had a mate that had something to do with a book written about the band. So, armed with said book at the stage door before the gig, I asked for a message to be sent to Dave Brock, informing him I was the nephew of the author.

Myself and a mate got backstage before AND after the gig and I have pictures to prove it somewhere.

I remember watching Ginger Baker smoking like a chimney and downing a huge amount of Bacardi and Coke (the soft drink) and yet he never missed a beat all night.

After the gig, Ginger was on the booze again and I remember we had to leave when several very beautiful young ladies entered the room

By the way, IIRC, Ian Walker at 124works does look like Ginger Baker did back then :D

Those were the days, and if I can find the pictures I'll post 'em ;)

Levitation Levitation Levitation!

I too have a cd of movie and tv themes (my own compilation) that undeniably alters the way one drives.

Night or day though, the one that gives me the funniest feeling behind the wheel is the theme from "The Naked Gun"...
I am though, envious of certain members on this forum, because I dont have any flashing lights to accompany that music :D

Probably just as well I dont...

Back in Feb I was driving through the Elan Valley and Sex On Fire came on the radio, an absolutely perfect mix of music and machine.

A few others which when you are in a secluded area, on a well sighted enjoyable road should be avoided by the DJs of the country....

Lenny Kravitz - Are You Gonna Go My Way
Van Halen -
Anything by the Foo Fighters :D
My Chemical Romance - Helena
Brass Construction - Movin :p
Ozzy Osbourne - Junkie

There are also the songs which slow you down, open the sunroof and relax as the V8 purrs away....

Jimi Hendrix - Little Wing
Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight (Obviously far better in a Daytona)
Jamiroquai - Space Cowboy
Lionel Richie - Easy

Dave!

Lionel Richie - Easy
Actually, that one would make me slow to a halt so that I could get out of the car to avoid vomiting on the upholstery :D

Sorry, I couldn't help it, I have an aversion to Mr Ritchie's balads

My current top 3

Great White - Psycho City
Helloween - Keeper of the 7 keys
Whitesnake - Live, in the shadow of the blues

Amazing that I keep my license with these in my changer!

Late at night , nice clear motorway , 'Comfortably Numb' ( from Pulse ) as loud as it will go ..... doesn't get any better than that !!

In no particular order

Boston - Hitch a Ride + More than a feeling
Doors - LA Woman
The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird
Guns & Roses - Sweet Child of Mine
Radiohead - No Surprises
Pink Floyd - Wish you were here + Comfortably numb
Led Zeppelin - Ramble On
The Who - Won't get fooled again

Not sure what any of them say about me, but to play in the car - great, except full 'hands off the wheel' air guitar moments can be rather dangerous. I'm sure there are more...

Paranoid and Ace of Spades, in fact particularly Ace of Spades, can't help speeding up to that!
New Kings of Leon album is good for rocking.

New Elbow album is great for chilling, that really grew on me.

However I like the mix of Zeppelin's Remasters.

Kashmir still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

He may be getting on a bit but he does play some good music, old Ken Bruce, (when his bosses let him). He's been playing Rush - Spirit of Radio recently. Who else plays that on the radio these days??

I heard Rush too.

How's this for a coincidence?

I woke up the othe day with The Rezillos - Everybody's on Top of the Pops in my head. Later that day it was a question on popmaster and then someone else on R2 played it the next day!

You want to have a listen to Planet Rock on DAB ( or the net ) ..

Don't listen to anything else nowadays ....

Alice Cooper as the breakfast DJ

Rick Wakeman has a slot , as does Guy Pratt ( uber-bassist ) ...

Never heard a bad show on there to be honest.

The day I start listening to Radio 2 is the day I have reached middle age.

Just retuned office radio - I'll give it a try.

Not too keen on what's playing at the minute............

Edit: 4.15pm.... much better.......
