MBClub are invited to join SportsMaserati.com at Rockingham on Saturday 21st of May.

Blurb from the Rockingham site:

Rockingham’s dynamic Wet Grip Area will push you beyond the limit in a unique controlled environment. Combining a kick plate, water walls and a polished surface, so smooth it’s like ice, it’s the perfect place to hone advanced driving skills and demonstrate the latest in automotive safety technology.

The Wet Grip Area was designed in conjunction with MIRA consultants, to meet exacting manufacturer testing and driver training standards.

http://www.rockingham.co.uk/about/wetgrip.asp

The day is split between two sessions, morning and afternoon - so please also post which session you would prefer to do if you have a preference.

There's space for a total of 24 cars (12 AM & 12 PM) so far there are Maserati, Mercedes, Lotus confirmed and signed up for the day leaving space for 9 other drivers.

The price is £100 per car for either session. (£2400 shared over 24 cars)

Please put your name down if you can make the date and DEFINITELY want to come - don't put yourself down if you aren't completely sure you can make it. It just causes problems later in the day, and if the numbers drop will ultimately make the day more expensive for your fellow members.

When the day is confirmed, I will post payment details - full payment will be required in advance - non refundable - if you drop out once paid, it will be down to you to find someone to take your place.

The price includes two instructors for the full day, and an operator for all the wet weather equipment. You use your own car on these days - it is your responsibility to ensure you are insured for a training day like this. I suspect there isn't a great deal to hit but please check with your insurer if concerned in any way.

Finally, please note I am not the principal organiser of this event but I have just agreed to post it on this forum for the benefit of the members here. Feel free to ask any questions, but it's likely I'll have to defer you to the organiser Em (Emdeetee). Thanks.

A few years ago there was reasonable interest in a similar event to be held at Hendon Police centre. For various reasons it never took off. So I would have expected a few members here at least to show an interest?

This is a really safe and educational environment to learn some valuable car control skills :)

Message from the organiser:

With regard to payment, the event date of the 21st May is reserved for us and I will shortly pay a 10 percent non-refundable deposit to confirm it, which I am happy to do now we have a healthy level of interest. Full payment to Rockingham is required one month prior to the event date, so 21st April latest. As I am the 'client' as far as Rockingham are concerned, the outstanding total will fall to me to settle. I will therefore be seeking payment from those attending from the beginning of April, by which time I hope we have filled the remaining places and made the event as cost effective as possible. Please be aware that I do not have public liability insurance, and feel no need to have it, however the deposit is therefore at my risk. All I would ask is that if you are on the list, but may not be able to make it, please let me know sooner rather than later, and for those whose attendance is confirmed, please can I ask for the courtesy of swift payment.

From the 1st April I will U2U everyone to request payment and include my bank details. I would prefer bank transfer, but paypal is fine also. Upon clearance of funds into my account you will each receive a U2U from me to confirm receipt. If you feel the need to have this confirmation in email, fax or postal format, please let me have the relevant details to supply it to you.

Regards to all,

Em (Miles)

Message from the organiser:

Can I just let everyone know that, due to unforeseen circumstances, there is now a spot vacant in the morning session.

Not a lot of time I know, but if anyone fancies taking this place, or knows of someone that could be interested, would you please let me know as soon as you can?

Many thanks, Miles.

Superb. Still just the three of us going from here? (and all in the am?)

Yes, that looks to be the case :)

I'm really looking forward to it, it's about time I learnt how to drive in the wet.

I can really recommend this day to members. I had a great time spinning around and meeting JonMad, Palmball and other forum members.

My main camera let me down so all I have to show for the day are these short clips.

JonMad's CLK55 AMG making it look easy

Palmball's Maserati GranTurismo making a great noise

S1 Lotus Exige showing how hard it can be

Looks like alot of fun, sadly I managed to get shift pattern in such a state that I missed both this and the GTG.

This event was organised by someone on the Maserati forum. All it takes is 24 committed MBClub members and the facilities can be booked out for their exclusive use.

It just needs a volunteer to make it happen :)
