Hi everyone

I came across this piece of information regarding how to reset your convertible roof on a 320CLK W208 if you have a problem.

However I only have half the information and I as wondering if anyone has the rest of the procedure that they could share on here.

This is what I currently have;

How to reset the Mercedes CLK convertible roof

In order to reset the convertible roof for Your Mercedes CLK You will need to power cycle the vehicle. First put the key in to the ignition and then pull it out while holding down the lock button. Now while keeping it held down press the unlock button five times in a row.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me so can anyone please enlighten me.

What’s th reason for needing to reset it, has it failed part way through opening and claiming? If so, take a look at the manual, it might explain how to close it with manual override. Once closed you could try the el chic open button again .

Thanks for the reply but your words do not make any sense? The manual does not explain this procedure

Good morning.
If this information is not in your Clk manual where did you find it, and how would you know that you have half of the missing information.
Having owned a convertible 208, I don’t see this key pressing thingy having any effect on the roof operation.

Silly me. Let me fix that for you.

So your manual doesn’t describe the procedure for manual override to close the roof?

I found the same text (and the missing bit) by googling “CLK roof reset”.

Like you, I am not convinced by hold this for 10 seconds, press that twice, and pat your head five times fixes copy/pasted across the Internet, but maybe this is the exception. Manual closing by following the instructions in the manual is the course of action I’d take.

I’ve seen them occasionally get into a tizzy. A sure-fire reset is to manually complete a full up/down/up cycle, then close the valve on the pump again. If that doesn’t fix it you will need a diagnosis by someone who understands how they work. These older cars use the old HHT diagnostic system, and fault codes are not much help, really just telling you it’s an endswitch fault. By looking at the switch statuses and manually operating the roof you can pin down exactly which one is faulty. There is more to it. I could bore for hours about these…

Hi thanks for the reply. I found this information via a google search and it is quoted here on just answer

First, put the key into the ignition and then pull it out while holding down the lock button. Now while keeping it held down press the unlock button five times in a row. Now You can release the lock button and Your vehicle will reset certain features like the roof and radio.

Same here I am not convinced either lol

Thanks jobsworth for your reply. I could probably bore you for hours too on this issue lol. I am just curious as to why the roof switch is lit up red before operating it. I am going to do a manual reset as it had a blown the 5 amp fuse in the engine bay fuse box which I replaced.

These cars are starting to go the way of old w124 convertible and r129 SL now, in as much as just disconnecting and reconnecting the battery terminals can blow the roof control module. It seems to be an age thing. An autosparks guy I know said it’s probably down to aged and leaking capacitors. I blew one myself the other day doing exactly that. I could have kicked myself! I even have a protection unit that you clip to the terminals first to protect from surges, but I forgot to use it

I'm so sorry to hear that especially and I hope you managed to get it repaired at a reasonable cost. Since the roof switch is illuminated red without even being operated tells me something is off.
I will be doing a manual reset and checking through the micro switches but I think you and your friend are right lack of use and battery continually being on off I may have the same issue. I hope not but I will do a diag check to see if there are any error codes just in case.
