Recently purchased W211 e320 avantgared (03) 51k full mbsr.
Warming up the engine the other day I realised the engine RPM would not
rev. above 4000 rpm. as a smooth driver (being old & economical) I've
not been above those revs on the road. I realise this car has so many
electrical protection devices etc.is there something wrong?

It does not rev over that on stand still :thumb: But do I undestand right, was you doing that on a cold engine

This is interesting, I have an issue which I would like clarification on.
When doing a traffic light drag race pull away in first gear (W124 5speed Auto), and no i dont do this often and abuse my car. The car short shifts first and second gear (approx 5k rpm). I can never get the speedo needle to get to the little notches which show the max for each gear on the speedo for first and second gear, 3rd onward is fine. I mentioned it in passing and Ian (w124 works) at the GTG and he suggested this could be to gearbox is designed to do this to allow for the extra stress caused by a foot to the floor pull away (causing a 1st gear to engage). The wallop of tourque could damage the box.
My question is why have the notches on the speedo if this is incorrect or does this only apply when pulling away from standstill.

If anyone can shed any light as I cant find anything documented.

BTW I am not in anyway doubting Ian's knowledge, we all know he has forgotton more than I can ever know about w124's :thumb:
