The opening paragraphs of the UN document explain the difference. It's written for operations within peacekeeping missions in mind, which will generally be in less than friendly territory.

I understand what you are saying but if you go to the trouble of transporting your VIP in a vehicle designed for a particular threat level [ armour plate- bp/ rocket proof glass etc] it seems slightly inconsistent not to adopt a similar hazard level of movement protocols if vehicles are available to do so ?

You're massively overthinking this. It's the off-the-shelf protection offering from Jaguar that will be used for all occasions. The rest of the convoy is what is tailored to the threat level, which in this situation is fairly low.

Not if you read post #16.

Any Sentinel is custom built relative to a normal XJ. The point is that there's nothing above and beyond about the ones provided to the PM. Anyone with suitable readies can buy to the same spec. Additionally, the choice of vehicle won't be up/downgraded according to the threat level, they'll use the same vehicle for all jobs (or simply not travel).

Did anyone else spot whose was part of that protest about Turkey's action against Kurdish rebels.

None other than Mr Bollocks to Brexit Steve Bray.

There must be money in this professional protesting lark to cover his expenses for the commute from Wales to Westminster every day for 4 years.

To move the thread away from any politics what the panel think is going to be the new PM's daily or he will just stay loyal to his Previa?

I think it is because it is ‘only’ Bojo.

I’ve worked at quite a few events involving senior royals , and they always have a minimum of three cars ; one in front and one behind , as well as random police cars and bikes , the role of the bikes being to keep ahead and manage traffic to clear the route .

Now that this is mentioned , I think there could be scope for a special Top Gear episode , to test who has the best state limousines and their level of protection .

It would have to be in two parts : first on the airfield , the car’s performance and ability to escape from an ambush , including the tyres ability to resist being shot at or a stinger deployed in the vehicles path . Both acceleration and braking capabilities should be tested , as well as the reverse flick evasion technique.

For the second part , the vehicles would need to be taken to an Army firing range and assaulted with a variety of weapons , explosive charges and tools such as Stihl saws , thermic lances etc .

We could compare Boris Jaag with an MB Guard Limo , and something from the Land of the Free .

Sadly , doubt they would get either the presidential’Beast’ or Her Maj’s Bentley ( she only has two and valued at £10million each ) but Lincoln or someone over there must make armoured limos .

Incidentally, Her Maj’s car is not only bigger , heavier and more costly than Bojo’s, it is also considerably faster .

It could be a great wheeze of an episode , especially if JC had to be in the car when being tested !

Erm.

THERE'S THIS
It would appear that having the VIP car at the front is pretty much standard practice within London. It goes into detail about the role of the motorcycle escort but nothing about vehicle running order? I have to assume that it confers additional security under these circumstances switching routes -less danger of being boxed in , keeping a low profile etc - I don't think its related to threat level. I would love to hear the thinking behind it.

A strange way to describe it, but it's a beautiful thing to watch.

Unfortunately I can no longer ask the gentleman who would be able to give you a thorough answer there, as he passed away a couple of years back. My shooting buddy Malcolm worked diplomatic protection (amongst others) in the Met, he was still serving at the time that video was taken.

Pretty much the same techniques are employed up here , other than , as I mentioned , there is normally either a security services Range Rover , or at least a police traffic car , in front of the principal vehicle , as well as the usual ones following . Perhaps because Glasgow's Miles Rougher !

Jeremy Clarkson has not worked on Top Gear for over five years now. But I get your point.
