Rre C124 Twin Turbo

What sort of power would this be producing?
Wonder how it would compare to the E500

There is nothing 3.6 about it. I'd prefer it without the brabus bling.

The m103 TT runs around 310 bhp out the box but plenty of scope for modernisation.

The m104 TT has more power out the box (350 ish) but alot more involved conversion.

This is my friends car, it's a M103 3.0L Turbo Technics with all the Brabus styling etc, seen it a few times and it's a very nice car in great condition indeed.

Tell him to remove the 3.6 24 badges then

The turbo technics badge is perfectly sufficient in a willy waving contest :)

Interesting car. Is a turbo technics worth a huge deal more than a nice standard 300CE? Were the engines modified internally?

Also not a fan of the Brabus bling.

I think a turbo 124 is a good thing, and a bit of a legend, I’m not sure this one knows what it’s doing? The wheels and grill don’t do it any favours in my opinion, a very decent 300ce is now £8k plus, so a genuine period turbo would be more, but this ones not hitting the spot, for me.

M103 kit was bolt on more or less.

M104 3.2 / 3.0 24v modifications were required to lower the compression ratio

All are a completely different animal to the 500e and not really comparable. It was stated at the time though that most wild was the 3.0 24v with the TT kit.

I have an M104 3.2 coupe TT that we built almost a decade ago. It's a rather involved process including a thicker gasket, in my case a complete engine rebuild using a donor block, forged pistons, new Split second injection timing (the supplied TT one with the kit was just an adjustable screw-comedy gold!), modification of the cooling system, plumbing in the oil fed for the turbos etc, etc. It was not cheap but it does have some go and mine at .7 bar runs about 350bhp. If I was inclined changing the turbos would give the potential for yet more power but, frankly, it would overwhelm the character (and capabilities) without upgrading suspension, gearbox, brakes etc.

They are real fun and put the wind up much newer metal but to use the power on UK roads you have to select gears manually in the auto box to keep the revs up and the turbos spinning. Mine will do over 100 in third. The thing really wants its head and in this day and age could have your licence in terrible trouble pdq.

I actually think it would be better suited mated to the Getrag manual box out of the 190 2.3/2.5 but never got round to that and its not the easiest conversion I think.

Oh yes; it could also do with an LSD and some wider rims than the 8 spoke 15", 7.5" wide ones its on ha ha.

Mine looks completely standard apart from a stainless Longlife exhaust and is very much a Q car that everyone expects to be a wafty old Merc (which it is if you keep the revs below 2800 rpm).

I have far too much invested (emotionally) in mine to sell it except maybe to Jay as I know he's never had a TT and he would make her absolutely perfect.

A manual conversion isn’t that hard really if you get all the parts, I’ve done a 126 with the m103 and a w124 300d.

The only real issue I had was the flywheel, obtaining a correct manual one from a m103 engined car was tricky so we made one up using the timing from the auto flywheel and the manual flat wheel from a 190 2 litre, quite easy really. Interestingly there were a couple m194 fly wheels knocking around at the time, but I wasn’t sure they’d work with my car.

The transformation to the 126 is amazing, you can really use the engine now, in my case not to go fast, but to use wide throttle openings with low revs, something the auto wouldn’t allow.

The conversion takes a weekend and requires no real jiggery pokery, or not on the m103 engined car anyway. Parts are readily available from eBay Kleinanzeigen.

Couldn't help but look around. This took my eye....for all the wrong reasons

Not so easy on the m104 but still been done

The 300ce 24v was available in Europe with the Getrag from the factory, lucky buggers

Not an original factory 3.6 but apart from the rear end, blackout grill and those wheels, I like it. Old skool cool

I've always been drawn to turbo'd CE's. Personally, I'd sort out all the black bits (ie put them back to original) and sort the badge party on the bootlid.

Otherwise I like it.

EDIT - I'd do a bit of de-Brabus-ing in the engine bay too....

That 200 is 'the only one in the world wrapped in gold chrome colour vinyl'.

Thank God for small mercies...

Plenty of gold / chrome wrapped 200s round my way. W205s though :)

'Lucky' you...🤮
