Actually...

A friend of mine is selling his Clio if you're interested... it has a dent in front where he hit a motorbike (me) but (iirc) it's got 60k miles and has a full service history...

Come to think of it, I did promise I would post an advert in classified here! Will do eventually :p

I had a Pug GTi

Great fun really great fun... :)

How about a clio williams are they £1k now? 150bhp and a modern mini?

Ford Puma, odd looking bug thing but a nice zetec engine and quite gocart like.

Golf Gti, great car, brother had a MkII

I think at this level its trying to find one thats not already been through the pages of max power / halfords and then if its a good un the price reflects it :)

Thanks. Totally agree. It's not so easy finding a decent 205, MK I/II Golf that hasnt been ripped already! Clio is worth a look I think actually. :thumb:

I'll post details when I get home tonight, I promised him I would post an advert ages ago and never got to it...

how about a Toyota starlet GT or MR2

Budget is small! Put it this way, if I could have my Fiesta back I would (my lil' brother drives it now). I would just get another one, but want something different. Literally something to chuck around town. I dont' want to worry about a few knocks and bangs! Prefer something old/classic too as insurance is so cheap that way! But not fussed on that point.

Let's say £1000 tops, but prefer less!

Another idea - I've always been keen on a MkI VW Golf or a Pug 205 GTi!

The W124 I'm about to buy is costing me half that amount ! I have recently bought a 190E for £300 , a 2.6 for £500 , a 280SE for £100 and all have been good cars .

I know of a club member who won a 300TE on eBay for £7.50 then found change under the seat bringing the total down to about a fiver . The car came with almost a full tank of petrol and went on to pass a further MOT without expenditure ! That was a cheap runabout , despite a large dent in the rear wing .

My old Head of IT at school had a 1986/C Mini at the time (early 90s). Plenty-enough room and it handled like it was on rails. I personally probably wouldn't have one for safety reasons either but I can understand having a soft spot for them - I certainly do...

My misses used to have a 2000/W 1.25 Ghia Fiesta and I loved it also. Was quite nippy and like a go kart although my misses wasn't happy with how I drove it... :D

The problem with Escort RS Turbos / Renault 5 Raiders etc. is that they all seem to be going the wrong way in price. I guess sellers are trying to cash in on nostalgia but I paid £4100 for a G reg Astra GTE 16V in 1996 - I aint paying that for one now...!

I personally think the Celica is the best bet so far but I'm sure you could get another 1.25 Fiesta quite cheaply now...

If I am ever in need of such a motor, this will be high up on the list... incredible value now.

Impeccable reliability as well I imagine.

If I could find something like that I'd be all over it believe me!

By coincidence, I may be selling mine.... :)

If you're looking for something small and fun, then consider a Suzuki cappuccino. 600cc, 3 cylinder, turbocharged rear wheel drive fun!
Plus the roof comes off. We've had one in the family for around 8 or 9 years. The only thing to really watch out on them is rust, but there are plenty of decent examples out there.

OK all - I've always had a soft spot for an Alfa GTV. They can be had for just over £1k these days but I've heard many differing views on reliability. Some have had no issues. Other have had many issues! Does anyone here know anything about these?

Am driving a little Honda Jazz at the moment while my car is elsewhere and I have to say that once you get used to the difference between the MB and the Honda, it's a nifty little thing that likes to be flung about and is actually quite a fun little drive. Reminds me a bit of my old mini which I used to drive and only blew up 3 times while I had it!

The Jazz is a great car, but that's reflected in the price of used ones!
