Rust around windscreen trim

There is some rust coming from behind the top edge of the screen on my W202. Is it possible to remove and refit the rubber trim along the top so that I can get right into the rusty area. Looks like the screen is bonded, maybe the trim is just a finishing strip.
Would appreciate any advice.

Screen trim

For what it's worth. I decided to have a go at the trim and found that it seems to be held in with some kind of clips. I managed to get the rubber away from the roof far enough to clean and paint the metal. I didn't dare try to remove the trim completely. Trouble is it doesn't lie flat like it did so I am keeping my fingers crossed that no water finds it's way in. I am going to seal it up and secure the rubber with some silicone when I get a chance.
