Rust pics, can this be treated?

As per the title can I use the drainage holes to squirt some WD40, grease or any other product to fight and prevent the rust from spreading?

The holes give easy access to where the rust is if using an aerosol and will seep into the lower bit of the tailgate where the water gathers and cant escape (below the drainage holes).

Thanks, sounds promising. What would be best, WD40, a sealer, spray paint, grease etc?

Im thinking WD40 might be good initially but does it have any rust prevention or longevity properties?

Proper cavity wax. There are better ones than Waxoyl...Dinatrol springs to mind.

Im a big fan of waxoyl... didnt really like dinitrol when I used it... didnt seem to last as well on the exposed sections... but maybe I didnt give it enough of a chance...

Whatever you use, dont use the spray can versions.. You need a proper shutz gun with cavity lance...

It was going well until you started saying things I didnt understand, lol. What is wrong with the spray can version? What is a shutz gun and cavity lance and where do you get it from?

Buy the time I buy that and work out how to use it I could have bought a used tailgate from the scrappy. Is it really not worth using the aerosols I put a link to or is it a case that they arent as good but still do a good enough job? By what Jaymanek wrote it sounds like they are a really bad idea.

I say go for aerosols, just warm them in hot water before use as this thins the oil/wax and increases the can pressure.

No, its a 2006 that has 1 indi service and 2 main dealer stamps (it's on ASSYST and only done 29,000 miles).

Only for as long as the service is kept within the main dealership - as far as I know.
The guy who had it before me got it serviced a month before selling it so took it to an indi to spoil the run unfortunately. :wallbash:

A dealer service will re-instate the Mobilo package...but Mercedes will still turn down the claim...

What would the mobilo package offer?

Fortunately the 4 doors look to have been replaced already as they dont have the crinkle seal that the boot has that has caused so many problems.

Breakdown cover and the hope of corrosion claims being honoured.

People like to have hope...

Our 2005 W169 so far has had 4 doors together with rear sills and boot lid replaced by MB. Touch wood no problems getting the work approved.

That's because they had a known issue, later cars are supposed to be sorted so getting rectification is harder.
