I take delivery of a 500SE next week (will post pictures etc.) To maintain it's rust free conditition I was contemplating using this company. Rubbish website but they are booked up a long way ahead.

Has anyone used them or a company offering a similar service?

Without a pit/hoist I'm assuming it's a difficult DIY job?

My local garage say they can do it, but is it better left to a specialist?

Thanks

Well when i was into to landrovers there was a big argument between a disco owner and chris at bf+a he had waxoyled the car and a couple of years later it had seriously rusted to pieces big time, the outcome was chris payed for the repairs and the rewaxoyl.

Lro forum iirc.

I personally think hes bloody dear and then some.

Main bits that rust on a merc you or your local garage can do, much much cheaper, mainly wheel archs and wings.

I did contact chris and to be fair he seems a nice bloke who does a good job.

I friend used before-n-after for his 1990s Daimler. After treatment the car was parked outside 24-7 for the next 3 years I think, with no new rust appearing. So he was happy.

I have always done this myself.. The key is in the prep.. the underside needs to be properley cleaned off.

Already badly rusty areas will continue to corrode no matter what it says on the tin.

Waxoyl/Dinitrol are preventatives not cures.. So if your car is clean when its applied then if will benefit from the treatment.

I re do mine every 2 years.

As for Before/After (and there are a few others around).. IMO they are expensive. The waxoyl comes to around £40-50.. Its a days work, so for a normal garage no more than £150... IIRC they quoted me around £400 which was way OTT...

Like has been said.. a local independent can do this job for you.. im not sure it would be quite as well done but probably good enough for our well put together automobiles.

Do you do inside the doors? To do so do you have to romove the door cards?

Company was based in Newbury and has now moved north, I have heard good reports from friends who have used their services for landrovers both old and new. It won't be cheap and you could probably do the work quite easily if you have access to a ramp though it is very messy.

or you can put a spray probe inside one of the holes in the frame of the door; do it on a nice hot day and the waxoyl goes all over the place.

Only if you use to much! ive got one of the air line pressure sprayers and i do all my own cars, doesnt cost much sprayer was by sealey iirc £70 and waxoyl is just over £20 a tin.
As said defo needs redoing every couple of years possibly every year as the wax is so cheap.
Use the black stuff underneath looks the business and the clear stuff everywhere else.

Well in my defence it was staring to rust when i bought it:eek:, but has got worse since.

Didnt waxoyl it until about 6 months after purchase, now got some ankor wax to try, the vw boys reckon it the dogs danglies:D.

Iirc dinitrol do kits for specific cars with instructions on where is most important to wax etc.

I havent done inside the doors as I was once told that water/moisture is designed to flow out of the bottom of the doors and waxoyl can block these drain holes.

I have not used Before n after myself. However, when I was a member of the MB Club, they used to advertise in the gazette. There was a letter published from a very unhappy club member about the service he received. I believe the company stopped advertising in the gazette following some heated exchanges with the club chairman in relation to this letter.

Obviously I know nothing other than the correspondence published in the club magazine, and there are two sides to every story, and this was around five years ago. I just think I should mention that not all reviews of them have been positive.
