Hello

My car has a tiny bit of rust under the rear boot handle in fact not yet blown through but getting there and under one arch another piece about the size of a 5p.

Now my car has a FSH but not Merc, MB up to about 32K and then Indy from there to now 48K.

Does that mean rust repairs are void? and I have to get a quote myself for the work?

Thanks

I THINK so long as it has been seen by a MB dealer at least every 2 years (ie every other service) you are OK, as apparently they check this as part of the service or something......
It should be in the handbook though, although it will be well hidden...

Thanks,

I've had the car over two years now and never taken it to Mercedes for a service so guess I sort it myself.

:) No problem

Have you asked your nearest dealer A210AMG?

It might be worth asking... I can't see how getting your car serviced anywhere else would affect the condition of the bodywork?

Maybe MB see things differently though.

Might as well ask, remember the saying 'if you don't ask...'? - nothing to lose :)

How long is the 'new car' rust warranty, ignoring the 'Mobilo' side of things for a moment?

Will

The problem is the bodywork has to be inspected by a MB Main Dealer whilst it's being serviced.

No harm in asking.

I get confused with the rust warranty, but I *think* that strictly speaking it only covers rust from the inside out. From reading other posts, it would seem that many outer surface repairs have been done as goodwill, so the servicing requirement isn't strictly speaking necessary.

I suppose though, that if you turn up at the dealership and you've not had any contact with them before, then that's unlikely to dispose them towards being helpful.

Mine hadn't been to a dealer for 4+ years before it was approved for a warranty claim. I had to produce the service book but the bodyshop man told me MB only check that the car has been serviced to schedule. As had been said before, does a mechanical service bear any relevance to the rust problem?

I'm sure many others here have not had recent MBSH before getting a warranty claim approved. I would take it in and see what they say.

Same here. Had no problems despite using an independent for servicing.

Hello

Thanks will take it and ask,

I've bought the odd part from there and my brother bought an A class, Dad also has his E class regularly serviced there so athough I'm not use to them as such we do as a family use them (Chester Mercedes)

Thanks

Take it in - no harm in asking - the worst they can say is "no".

Or you could buy a Puttocks stamp on ebay.....now I know why it was £68! :)

I didnt have a full MB history, but as long as the book had been stamped, and I owned it for at least 6 months it was okay...

... until the paint scans came back that the car had, had a full respray in its life and I didnt have any proof of who did it, so it was rejected.

If they are like some other dealers, they will use a different bodyshop - not part of the dealership at all - so it won't matter whether you use the dealer. Greenoaks in Reading have a rep from their bodyshop 20 miles away who comes in every Wednesday lunchtime to see all the people with rust issues or bodywork repairs, he makes an initial assessment and then (hopefully) submits a claim to Milton Keynes. Tony Purslow in Newbury used to outsource the repair work too, but in their case you had to see the Service Manager first. So it might be worth a call first to your dealer to find out how it works there, could save you a trip if you need to turn up at a given time.

As far as I know, if the vehicle is under 8 years old, it is not required to have a full MB history.

Ive just had a rust repair approved today for my 2005 SLK.

I had spotted two tiny rust spots in the rain water channel that runs parallel to the boot hinge. The spots were actually coming form under the black seal and the warranty guy said he had never seen this issue before.

He did a quick check over the rest of the car and spotted a slight bubble/blemish on the corner of the roof panel that I hadnt noticed, so that's getting done for free too.

Goes in for 3 days next month and I get either an A class or a B class as a courtesy car- which should I take?
