Rusted Control Arms

I did shocks and springs on the back my Clk, I left the plastic covers off the arms.

Plastic covers don't they have pre-drilled holes for water to seep out otherwise covers would be rusttraps?
 
Have a look at my photos. Even with drain holes they are rust traps.

Your original arms were rusty but that's from years of use.
Many people forget to wax oil their cars undercarriage, parts will eventually look like deadbeats at dawn as in the photos.

Protect the new links before you put them on.
 
Both sides done now. The near side wasn’t as bad as the offside but wasn’t great either. Changing the front springs and dampers next week so we’ll see what that turns up.
 
Fronts done. The control arms weren’t so bad, just some surface rust. The brake back plates are like lace - new ones on order.
