Having just stripped 2 E320cdis, both otherwise clean cars with lots of warranty replacement panels, they both had massive holes behind the rear bumper.

Clearly overlooked by MB...

I presume it's not coincidental that it's below the air vent flap?

Both 210s both clean cars too water must pool and rot these out?

Reminds me of a C reg MK4 Escort I once had in the mid 90s.

I have just bought a W210 Estate - X reg - and have the same on both sides. Foolish of me not to spot it but......

What chance of a claim on Mobilo I wonder?

About zero I would have thought, but with the bumper off it's an easy enough repair - renault12 went through all of this with his I think

Stripped the carpet out to get at some loom someone needs, rest of floorpan mint, just the rear corners seem to be the issue

Mine was the same...now welded up.

I think it comes from the outside...there is a felt like material in the bumper shells...which holds wet mud very effectively against the body.

In this photo you can also see the remains of the forward bracket that the bumper used to slide into...it was attached to the body but is now part of the bumper!!
