Rusty Wheel Arches

The bodywork of my silver 2000 SLK 230 is in pretty good shape, but unfortunately there's a bit of rust under the 4 wheel arches. It's creeping round the corner onto the front face in places.

I spoke to a few people who've advised me to have it done right and I'd need it ground down, rust removed, primed and resprayed and the 4 wings should be done. Another guy advised the doors should be resprayed too to match it all in. and then someone else said NO- don't do that or it'll affect it's resale value as they'll be clearly resprayed and a buyer will assume it's been damage repaired!

I've looked online for wheel arch trims thinking I could have the front edge inch resprayed back to the vertical lip and put on the trims to hide the join.

So what should I do? Any advice / suggestions?

I had the same problem, so, just treated the rusty areas, painted them , and added trims - which I like !! LOTS of people don't - matter of taste, anyway, see pics and you decide :dk:

Thanks yours looks good too the AMG kit really does change the look of a 210

Only slightly it still sits nicely what is your suspension set up? Im running weitec springs with bilstein shocks.

Lol it is the only engine I can get insured on at my age would love to have an actual e55 though :(

The rear bumper will be hard to find where did you get the rest of your kit from?? The wheels look good how wide are the rears??

the rears are massive i did have 285 profiles on there but now i have 245 stretched.. what billsteain shocks do you have B6?.. i got my body kit from a member on here.. i might have to get a duraflex rear i had a duraflex c36 kit that fitted better than original..lol..

all due respect but them chrome arches completly ruin the look of the r170.. they stick out far to much..

Hi Guys,

Anybody know of a good, 'cheap' bodyshop around the Watford areas? I have a W210 with rusting arches that need a cheap fix. Cheap due to tight budget.

The car is in house a 6-12 months stopgap, and is due to be picked up in the next day or so. I personally have not seen the arches, but am told they are showing signs of rust.

Thanks in advance.

Cheap and Cheap fix together with rust issues do not go together im afraid kid.

the rust will come back, you'll be looking for another cheap fix, come back again then another cheap fix then you'll think why i didnt get it done properly in the first place.

ive found tinkering with motors needs to be:

how much it means X is it going to be a keeper / logical thinking = great satisfaction.

The shocks are B6 and I think you’re in luck mate there is a facelift rear bumper waiting on eBay for you
