The red led in my rear view mirror doesn't work. All the alarm functions are ok as far as I'm aware. (How can I check them without breaking in?)

Does the rear view mirror come apart or is it glued together? This assumes that I can remove the overhead lighting console to unplug it. I still haven't found those tags that hold it in place

hi had similar problem with mine when i bought it two years ago red led never worked did,nt know it was supposed to. Everything was ok for about 8mths then started having problems with immobiliser not going off it was erratic sometimes it would other times it would,nt managed to get the car to local stealers he asked if red&green l.e.d.s were working including door l.e.d.s when i told him the red l.e.d. in the mirror was blown he said it would need replacing as that would cause immobiliser problem told him it had been perfectly ok until now(8mths) but he said that it needed to be replaced before anymore fault diagnosis could be done, and that i would have to replace the mirror complete. At this point i left then saw old school buddy whose now a mechanic there. Chatting there for a few minutes, the guy came back out and said that he could replace l.e.d. by taking it apart and soldering in a new one he said he would,nt do it normally but as i knew the mechanic he would do it as a favour, he took the mirror down, took it in to the workshop 5minutes later he was back refitted mirror and it solved the problem and he would,nt even except money for a drink. hope this answers your question.

Isn't it the case that if both LEDs burn out the immobiliser and alarm cant be set?

Am I missing something here? I dont recall seeing any led's in my RVM. Does that mean they are dead? or not fitted in my model?

If you have the modern style key (not flip) then you should have no LEDs in the mirror.

Thanks Shude I was starting to think I had an expensive problem that I was going to get a huge bill tomorrow when it gets serviced.

Hi

On the 202 i had they were not led's but bulbs, i soldered a new bulb into the red lens twice bit it would only last a few months before blowing again, (probably because it flashes when system is armed). The last time i replaced it with an LED and it was still working when i sold the car.

To check if alarm is working or not lock the car with the blipper and wait for more than a minute before opening the door manually with the key, the alarm should sound.
When one of the bulbs was out on my 202 the alarm would not arm.

Thanks for the replies. It sounds as though the mirror does come apart, so I'll give it a go.
