Reported in the Daily Mail today that the boss of Ryanair wants to launch a pornography service for passengers.

Michael O'Leary's flight attendants will hire handheld devices such as i-pads for passengers to watch porn videos during flights.

.....and after this? I expect flight attendants will invite passengers to join the mile-high club.

That has to be a wind up surely, I thought under current laws broadcasting of that type of material was to over 18 only (over 25 in some countries) so he would then have to have only 18+ flights and that's a good revenue loser. I have never flown Ryanair after an episode coming back from Germany with them complete sharks. The other budget airlines, Easyjet, Jet2 and Flybe I have no problems using whatsoever.

Yes it is, Michael was at the same school as me at the same time (albeit a few years younger and in my brother's class). He has his head screwed on, but this is a nonsensical slur placed on him by people who are incredibly jealous of his success.

Actually I cant stand Ryanair either for very good reason. Its not a slur, it is just an unpleasant service he provides.

A sort of "what service do you expect when you buy cheap?" type attitude. (only often its not so cheap).

He comes across as a tosser of the highest order, never mind how successful he is.

More nonsense based on the assumption that there's no such thing as bad publicity. Place it in the bin along with the stories about standing room on their planes and paying £5 to use the toilet.

I recently flew Ryanair for the first time, simply because the plane went to where I needed to be from a convenient airport.
I booked 2 days in advance, the price was good, booking was easy, checking in was very quick and easy, boarding was a little confused due to the ground staff mixing up the gate, but soon sorted.
Seeing people tucking into their own food on the plane was an unusual sight, but otherwise the flights were fine.

Would I use them again...yes I would, but I would book priority boarding to try to bag seats with extended legroom, but that's just personal.

its cheap and cheerful. book the flight with that in mind, it gets you where you want to go, very cheaply, incredibly cheaply infact, with no frills. whats there to complain about? yes they charge for extras but if you book and view the "total price" rather than seeing some £1 flight offer and then complain because you have to pay an extra £20 then thats your fault.... its pretty obvious.

as for the plane porn, does that mean you could be sitting next to some guy bashing one off next to you or do they provide "private areas"?

lol, i suspect any announcement about this porn is purely to get people talking about ryanair. the old saying... "any publicity is better than no publicity"....

if i were now to need to book a flight, ryan air is in my mind.... easy. personally i think that makes the man a superb businessman.

Probably a publicity stunt... like the toilet charge a few years ago...

That said, I keep RyanAir at arms length - and I tend to fly low cost to Italy about twice a month...

My issue with ryanair is their attitude, when really, they aren't all that cheap... let's compare my ticket down to go skiing...

The below are all for 2 people, travelling with 2 pairs of skis, 2 pairs of boots and associated equipment.

RyanAir from STN:
£60 to fly down (unticking ALL the optional items and paying with a visa electron card, which I don't have... add a few pounds for using my debit card)
£48 to get to the airport with a bus from Heathrow (which is near my house)
£40 to carry skis in a single ski bag
£15 to carry boots in a suitcase with other clothes (if they find out the suitcase contains sports equipment, they'll charge an extra £40 instead. That's 1 suitcase in 2 people)
all that with an extra 1.5 hours to get to the airport here...
Total: £163

BA from Heathrow:
£160 to fly down (includes 1 suitcase per person, and ski bag is considered a normal suitcase)
airport is 10 minutes from my house...

No prizes for guessing which one I've chosen...

The part that annoys me isn't the price, it's the attitude. The site is designed to trick users into adding extra services (insurance, car rental, bags, etc - yes, you can now buy ryanair branded suitcases)... Then at the airport you're treated like cattle, the staff feel that as you're flying low cost you don't expect any service...

Personally, I try to fly Alitalia/BA, or EasyJet (in that order)... or just drive...

I take it maths wasn't your chosen subject, you've included the travel which is nothing to do with Ryanair.

It should read Ryanair = £115, BA = £160.

AFAIK, Ryanair don't charge extra for anything in your normal baggage, they charge separately for separate sports equipment.

Directly no. Indirectly, yes. If Ryanair only fly to wherever it is from the ar*e end of nowhere instead of from your nearest airport, then it seems perfectly fair to factor in extra travel costs as an overall consideration.

After all, petrol is 20p a litre in Kuwait.

you pays your money and you makes your choice-- nobody has to fly Ryanair but if you want to go to, say, Limoges - and I do as I have a house relatively near there - then from where I am in UK - its Ryanair or drive.

Costs vary for the flights - supply and demand factor - but if you pay a "budget" price you can't complain at a "no frills" service. Even the most expensive tickets (for 2) come to less than fuel/tunnel/toll costs... and save a lot of time. Add in a small hire car for a few days and it gets closer..... but its easy to fly! That said - if the flight was much longer than 2 hours I'd be looking for alternatives...

So when I want to fly using BA from Heathrow, it's BA's fault I have to factor in a couple of hundred extra for my travel.

Airlines are regulated as to where they can fly from, it's not their choice. BA get Heathrow as they have the most muscle.

This forum gets more bizzare by the day...

That's not quite true.

One of the reason that we have Ryanair and Easyjet buzzing about is down to the deregulation and they manage to chop and change schedules/timetables to compete.

Heathrow on the other hand is a different kettle of fish. Both in terms of market barriers through lack of capacity for incomers and regulation on some intercontinental routes (eg. US).

BA get Heathrow because they are *the incumbents* and have some specific transatlantic rights.

However their neglect of the regions means that for many of us using BA is a long forgotten concept.

Now unlike the restrictions at LHR keeping BA's competitors out of that airport there isn't anything similar stopping BA from competing at other airports with EasyJet and Ryanair.

So when I want to fly using BA from Heathrow, it's BA's fault I have to factor in a couple of hundred extra for my travel.

Well it's their commercial decision not to compete for your business by using a different airport.

Of course, but Spinal was saying Ryanair are poor because they are more expensive for him, as he lives under the flight path for Heathrow.

If he lived near Stanstead would that make Ryanair great and BA poor, of course not, it's just the cost balance would shift.

Looool Doncaster international

A bit sexist. Could be a woman. Still complaining?

no
