Hi,

Any help please?

I have an S320cdi, 2001 with 49,000 miles.

I have noticed that the front wheelarches are bubbling with rust....would that be covered under the Mobilo guarantee please?

Is this a common MB problem. I am amazed if it is because my previous car, a much older Saab and another Honda, had NO RUST...I really expected better from MB..

Any help or advice would be much appreciated please.

Thank you

Ray

hi
i got s55amg 1999 which has got rust ,wheel arches, boot as well mb wont do it ,so a letter to md (mb uk) let see what they say

Unfortunately rust is a problem even with the S class of that era. MB have been very good to sort out the rust problem on my 2002 S. Get the car to your dealer and let them have a look at it. They normally take photos and check the paint thickness. Also check the bottom of the doors and the rear wings.

As umdec said check all four wheels aches bottom of boot lid and bottom of all four doors. I have a W reg 2000 S class and have it all done in the past by Mercedes. Best of luck at Mercedes on Monday.

I have got a few small rust issues on my drivers side wheel arch on my 1999 w202 (T). As far as i know its not on any mercedes warranty thing, but as far as i can gather from a few threads on here, your saying that if i take it along to MB dealer they will potentially sort the rust out for me? Do i have to pay?

Thanks,

Rob

There was a cut off date before which cars were covered for 8 years, it may have been 98. After that there is a 30 year gaurantee, but this is only for cars that have been serviced in the MB network. From what I've read on here, t can be a battle to get MB to do the work. No doubt someone more knoledgable than me can give the correct details.

Hundreds of threads on here on all sorts of tales of repairs under Mobilo & good will repairs for rust. It seems as if there is little consistency in the way cases are handled although it is right that if the car has been serviced outside the MB network then it will not be covered under Mobilo. That much IS constant.

My Y2000 S was riddled with it in the front wings, door bottoms etc etc. I can remember being shocked when I first found it as I'd not had a rusty car since the early 90's when I was running old bangers. That shock was nothing compared to that I felt at the speed it took hold! Get it sorted or get rid before it disintegrates in front of your eyes.

The result!!!!!!!!

Went to the local Merc dealership in Ulverston.... Cumbria....

Had to wait for the person responsible (Miles....the manager for repairs and parts etc) to come and see me which gave me time to drool over the fantatsic new models....

He arrived and I explained my problem....went and had a look at it.

"NO PROBLEM......needs to go to our specialist bodyshop in Blackpool and while you are there, any other bodywork issues....just let them know!!!!!"

I could not have asked for more. He said they would take it down for me.

I suggested I would take car down myself...no problem....courtesy car will be waiting for me!!!!!

I am delighted at this response....restores faith in MB dealerships.

Will let you know how I get on

My thanks to all here who have again helped me....very much appreciated....

Kind regards

Ray

Ray, glad to hear that. As I mentioned earlier have a good look around the rear wheel arches and the bottom of the doors. It is much easier to get everything fixed first time around!

Lucky you. Sounds like you are going to have one of the good news stories to tell, make sure you report back. Good luck.

My S430 had bodywork rust repairs to the tune of £4500 carried out in September 2007 under MB warranty. Unfortunately the garage who performed the repairs didn't do a particularly good job and by December 2008 there was more rust showing in the places they claim to have repaired ........ Mercedes have just agreed to another set of repairs to two doors, both rear arches and the bootlid .... my car is 10 years old in September !!

I get the feeling that there is no definite criteria to their decision to fund rust repairs or not, you may just have to catch them on a good day !

Good luck !
