S class sticky wheel buttons

Hi all I am not sure how it happened but my steering wheel buttons,became sticky,my first thought was my grandson had smeared something on them while I was not looking,but my second thought was that just maybe a car cleaner may have caused it,anyway I looked at the cost of new buttons,for get it they are off the scale,so I looked around and bought a bottle of Goo Gone armed with this and a clean cloth i gently worked at the buttons,the cleaner seems to attack the goo and after a few applications I found the easiest way was to scrape it off with a thumb nail and then repeat the process,took a while but the buttons are clean the white symbols on them are all still there so a success.
