Hi,

I recently bought a Mercedes S class w221 model and I noticed that the cruise control doesn’t work. The car has distronic plus and when I plugged the car into a computer, it said that the unit was faulty.
Someone said that water can get into the unit and that can be the reason why it doesn’t work.

Has anyone had the same issue?

Could it be something else but the fault comes up as a faulty unit?

I thought I’d ask here for some advice before I go and order one.

Any advice would be appreciated :)

Dig deep. They also need coding to the car.

Dig deep as in do further diagnostics or you mean they are expensive to fix?

Would a star computer be ok to do the coding?

There can be quite a few reasons why the Distronic is deactivated -- my advice is to get it on Star for a diagnosis (MB or Indie).

Thank you. I will ask a friend of mine to plug it in as he has a Star computer and see what it says.

The return to S class territory didn’t take long buddy ;)

Just thought I’d update this thread

I have a friend with a CL63AMG ( prefacelift ) and I asked him to give my his cruise control unit that sits behind the grill as I thought that would have been the problem with my car.
Two mins job to take mine off and plug his one in. The last four numbers were different from mine but I thought it was worth a try.
As I joined the motorway today, I put the cruise control on and it works perfect!
My car has radar cruise control and all the functions work as they should, closing the gap between me and the car in front or increasing the gap.
I thought it was worth mentioning this in case someone else has the same issue and thinks it needs coding or something like that. It’s just plug and play as long as it’s the same looking unit and has the same plug.

No coding, but you do need to calibrate the aim. If you find it slamming on the brakes when you go past lorries on the inside lane.
