S203: Tailgate won't open!!

Well, it was the metal that was broke that pushes the switch to electronically release the catch.

Couldn't weld it as it is that crappy white metal.

So made a plate up and drilled the two sections back together.

Pretty poor design using such weak metal, but I guess it is over 10 years old.

Might have been easier to make up a couple of contacts and solder the wires straight on, but wanted to keep the oem connectors there.

Took me ages to work it out.

All that was hidden at the back and couldn't see it was broke.

Had the switch out and that wasn't doing anything, but didn't realise I hadn't clicked the central locking twice so the switch was deactivated.

Then when I took it all out to photo, so I could see if it was the same as the saloon ones on ebay, I saw the snapped metal.
Then clicked the switch was deactivated.

Glad I sorted it with no cost though.

Nice work Guy!

How's the dog??

Getting there, we are going to give him another couple of hours and then let him come in whether he has thawed or not.

Alternative fix

I know this one was solved. But this trick worked in my car, a S203 too.
