Hi Guys, I’m new to the forum, I recently had my valve cover gasket replaced at a so called Mercedes specialist but still have a oil leak from the valve cover the car hasn’t been right since I took it there, the car judders like mad when cold and I can hear the turbo spooling up which I couldn’t hear before the work was done. Anyway sorry for rambling to cut a long story short they want to charge me another £300 to do the same work twice as they believe that it’s the gasket at fault even though it was to OE standards and not there handy work!! Could any please tell me what torque settings the valve cover bolts are supposed to be tightened to so I can have what they have set them to measured so they can’t worm out of doing the work for free!!

They maybe cracked the cover as it's only plastic if over torqued , it's 9nm for cam cover bolts and 15nm +180 degrees for injectors, I've done loads of these and never had an issue if done the job properly

Thank you so much for the reply, I didn’t expect to pay £300 to replace the gasket in the first place but did as I was told it’s a specialist job, I provided the gasket which met OE standards which is why I think they are now trying to put it on the gasket rather than they’re handy work, I wouldn’t mind so much if they would accept some responsibility as they diagnosed and so called fixed the problem.

Yeah possibly maybe gasket was pinched during installation or damaged or even cam cover got a slight crack in it from over torquing. I'd definitely be persistent with the garage that done this job as end of the day they diagnosed and replaced it.
Where are you based by the way?

I travel about but live In Gloucestershire, I had the work done in Brighouse which isn’t far from where my parents live. Where are you based ? Just in case I need work doing in the future, I would much rather use someone with experience and someone I can trust.

I'm based in Aldershot Surrey, it might be too far for you though.

I’ll be in touch, want the car checking over and sorting if there is anything that needs doing
