Hi Guys, I’m new to the forum, I recently had my valve cover gasket replaced at a so called Mercedes specialist but still have a oil leak from the valve cover the car hasn’t been right since I took it there, the car judders like mad when cold and I can hear the turbo spooling up which I couldn’t hear before the work was done. Anyway sorry for rambling to cut a long story short they want to charge me another £300 to do the same work twice as they believe that it’s the gasket at fault even though it was to OE standards and not there handy work!! Could any please tell me what torque settings the valve cover bolts are supposed to be tightened to so I can have what they have set them to measured so they can’t worm out of doing the work for free!!

Valve cover to me means rocker cover, but that wouldn't have nay effect on engine running and wouldn't cost so much.
So I'm assuming you mean the cylinder head gasket. There is no final torque applied to the 10x M12 bolts as they go through a series of +90 degree turns.

Hi thanks for the reply sorry meant rocker cover gasket, I know the work shouldn’t have effected the running of the car but I can’t say how well they put it all back together injectors and such like any help would be greatly appreciated as I don’t want to pay for the work twice and if so would rather take it elsewhere only problem is the garage is saying they won’t know till they take apart if it’s the gasket or their handy work!!

I'm happy to be corrected by others but don't see what £300 could be charged for.
Rocker cover torque 9N/m.
It's a heavy duty rubber. Unless damaged or not applied correctly shouldn't be leaking. Re using shouldn't be an issue if still undamaged.

Thank you for the reply much appreciated, will let you know what the garage decide once they’ve taken it apart!!
