I have heard that the turbo on these is variable vein and that the veins often clog up, is it easy to remove the turbo and clean it?

Never heard of turbo problem would be more concern with swirl motor issue (turbo intake pipe leaks oil into swirl through orange seals) expensive ish fix

Not at all. You car has the 613 engine which has a standard type turbo on it.
Can't remember ever replacing one. The 648 engine fitted in the w/s 211 had the vvt turbos. My advice to anyone with one of these engines is to add some forte turbo cleaner and give them a blast every now and then
It works wonders!

It has a VNT turbo which is vacuum operated, unless there's a fault or problem I'd leave it alone.

I have just fitted a new swirl intake motor but I seem to be losing boost in the higher rev range, it seems like the sound of the engine changes a bit like a metallic sound, it must be a boost leak but I cant see it. It goes well until 3k but is flat after that, its not limp mode as it does rev to the red line just very flat, but I can hear the turbo very loud

Blocked exhaust or split boost pipe from the turbo.

Just an update, had the precat removed and gutted yesterday, no noticeable difference in performance but the turbo is noticeably louder and so is the whooshing type noise and now when I try to use kick down when cruising at about 60ish I get limp mode until I let off and try to accelerate again, I don't have to stop the car it is just with kickdown, after I let off and try to go again it goes up and down the gears ok and on full throttle from standstill its fine also just in kickdown
