The horn has ceased working in my S210.
I've read that fuses 40 & 41 are the first things to check.
For the life of me, (I have searched images on line) I cannot find these fuses.

Any ideas, please?

TIA.

Paul.

Have you tried a multi meter to make sure power isn't getting to the horn?

Remove the visible horn, clean the connections...they are notorious for this.

Either under the bonnet or side of dash, shouldn't be under rear seat.

I suspect that a fuse is blown somewhere, Ciaran.
I witnessed a shorting when I was putting back the instrument cluster, which I had in and out many times to fix the dead pixels. It's the third or fourth cluster I've repaired and took me longer than ever this time.

I'll check the horn connections tomorrow. :thumb:

Bob, I have already checked the lot of them and can't find a 40 & 41 anywhere! On and off, this has been going on all week! :)

Thanks, Simon. :thumb:

I have checked those fuses and they are all intact.
I'll check the lot at the weekend, but I somehow think I'll be passing this on to Arthur C. Clarke.

The clock spring in the steering wheel on my 210 estate failed cutting out the horn. Worth a look?

Thanks Charles. That is something I will look at if the fuses and horn terminals are ok.

Thanks, Nick.

I'm not sure yet, but will know more when I get a spare half hour later to check or run the car round to the local motor spares place.

As you dont specify the year or engine type, its difficult to know what diagram is the correct one, but I have one here that shows the twin horns being fed from the K40 relay K4. Fuse 6, 15amp

I managed to cheekily squeeze in at the indy this afternoon.
Very kind of them to see my car at short notice.
Although they didn't have the time to fix the problem, they did some testing and the horns work, but there's no power to them.

Many thanks for the help so far. I'll update when I find the solution.

Update time.

Many thanks indeed to my local MB indy - Nick Webster Mercedes Specialists in Poynton, Cheshire. LINK.

In what was, I'm sure, a test of their knowledge and patience, the fault with the horn was found.
The cause of the malfunction is the fault of a sausage-fingered MBClub member bending one of the contact pins on the rear of the instrument cluster.

I was shown a sketch of the fault-finding process also listened to the explanation of how the horn is related to the instrument cluster.

10/10 for diagnosing and repairing. Very clever stuff IMHO. :thumb:

I would just like to make clear that it was me, and not the previous owner that bent the pin on the rear of the cluster!
