That’s a great tip thank you! I will definitely try that. I am at work today but off next week so I will try it out then and report back.@Biglips
Fully extend it out, give it a good clean...and then....wait for it !! Use spray starch (yes, like the type you do your shirts with) and cover the bottom of the cover in a good layer and rub it in
try this before you in the old one

Lenny
You are a genius! Works perfectly again. Please accept a virtual beer. All for the price of a 2.99 can of starch@Biglips Let me know if it works Did for mine which was a bit sticky
Just a domestic kitchen surface cleaner. It was surprisingly sticky on the reverse side of the cover despite being very clean on the upper side, and I can see why it was struggling to fully retract.I'm going to try that too! What was used for cleaning?
Much more elegant than my effort that was done with the load cover still in situ! However it is still working and I will probably give it another treatment if the rain ever stops.Okay, so I got a chance to attack the retractable boot skirt today whilst I was cleaning the car. Firstly I extended the skirt by suspending it from the garage door handle (which is quite sturdy)
I then used a generous application of a dedicated product from Wurth
I only applied the lubricant to the underside lower quarter, as it seems as though this determines the strength of the initial pull.
I then took the opportunity to give the remainder of the skirt lining a once over with Aerospace 303, in order to remove the stains.
After that, the skirt retracted smoothly and without impediment. A very satisfying few minutes well spent.
