S211 Roof bars

Hi everyone,

I have recently brought my dream Mercedes (a tanzanite blue s211) aged 17!!! (I’m very proud of it) and am trying to track down a set of the Mercedes roof bars for it. I need them to put my bike on. The boot is certainly big enough for anything else. I believe the part number is b67812123 but also b66850270 I think may also fit. I’m not sure what the right ones are for the estate with the roof rails.

I thought I had successfully bought a set on the w211 uk Facebook group, but that turned out to be a scam and a loss of £62 - which may not seem like a lot but for a seventeen year old like me it certainly has been annoying and slightly upsetting. I have reported it etc.. certainly won’t be making that mistake again. But I don’t think I will ever see that hard earned money again so don’t have much to spend on ‘another’ set.

We don't do Farcebook much these days; there are far too many scams and Facebook don't seem to care overly much. How did you pay for it?

Bank transfer unfortunately - am yet to know whether they will be able to get my money back - it looks unlikely though. I’m too young for PayPal unfortunately - you have to be 18.

I do have a set, two keys and the hex key, all in very good condition. Not a scam..recently sold my S211 so no longer needed.
Think postage would be expensive having recently posted another long item… I am near Portsmouth but don’t mind travelling a little if useful to you..

Definitely would like the set however I would require postage to Jersey, Channel Islands though. I don’t mind paying, just nothing extortionate. I don’t think I can PM yet (not enough posts).

Postage would cost about £18.15 (insured) to where I live. Would be happy to pay that if the cost of the bars is reasonable.

Have contacted Barclays (my bank) reported it etc... they say they can't guarantee my money back unfortunately. The £100 excess I think from the link you sent. Will find out within 5 working days. Certainly annoying as I had to work hard as a waiter on Saturdays for my money.

They are as good as new and are still in the MB box, would you be happy paying £60 plus the postage….

Thank you I am happy to pay that for them, but how do I do so to prevent what has already happened to me? I would certainly like the roof bars.

All I can say is that I enjoy being on this forum, enjoy going to events organised by it, and have been a member of it for many years, so why would I jeopardise that for a set of roof bars.
It is sad that trust has gone these days.. but..

I’m sorry that I lack trust, but I thought I could trust someone on a w211 Facebook group - clearly not. I think the forums are a better place though. Anyway will message next week. Whilst I can understand your reticence having been cheated once before I would happily trust a long time member.

I doubt anyone would risk their reputation over a relatively small amount of money.

Two thoughts:

With this forum you can trawl back through a member’s history and judge how legitimate he is.

As regards payment, I’d suggest that the answer is simple: just get a parent, or similar, to PayPal the money for you. Particularly when it’s for delivery to the same address the seller should be confident that you’re legit. Note that the postage will need to be “tracked” so that the delivery can be uploaded to PayPal as evidence.

Thank you both for the vote of confidence, life is difficult as it is. I am not here to add to others problems.
I am glad for many reasons that I am now at this end of my life, it now seems complicated and with the various options, scams and sexes now available, might have been in far more trouble than I was..
