S211 S212 7 seat query?

I haven't managed to find any info via the search so I thought I would start a thread.

I'm curious to know, do the second row of rear seats on a 7 seater 211 or 212 both need to be in the upright position at the same time. Can one simply just be in the upright position. Where do owners store there belongings if this is the case?

Looking at photos there doesn't seem to be a join between the seats.

They fold up simultaneously, no join. That’s why I sold my E-class estates and moved on to a GL - the third row seats can be folded independently on those (and you still have some boot space even with all seven seats up!)

The 211/212 third row seats are handy for occasional use but not everyday if you need a six/seven seater.

No ISOFIX etc either which you get in the GL.

The boot seats fold over as a single piece and they are only for kids. They're quite neat and we have used it on occasion but you then lose your boot space. Proper 3 point belts too mind but the foot space is only as deep as the seat is high so again only suitable for kids. This may be as I have a spare wheel underneath this false floor and it seemed that this combo was unusual. Maybe if there isn't a spare wheel the the foot space is deeper.
I can't see it would be anywhere near as useful as a GL or an R in regular use but than the GLs are huge - one went past the other day and that was my immediate thought. About as big as a Q7.

On the 211 you have a Storage box which i used quite abit, I do use the 7 seat option quite abit having a large family, Yes you do loose abit of the boot space still worth having imho.

Seats seat upto about 11yrs of age id say
