For a 2006 S211 with standard suspension, will 18" wheels with 245/40 (or, 265/35) tyres rub the bodywork at the rear under load or bumps, corners etc?

I don`t think so.Reg the GTG you asked about november, how far are you from London?

Close. I'm in London all the time! Is there one coming up? :)

The standard 'Sport' rears are 9x18 with a 39 offset and are obviously fine. I have used up to 275/35/18 on 9.5x18 with a 33 offset completley rub-free, but I wouldn't want to go bigger than that.:)

Thanks! I'm deciding between "CLS" 5 spoke 18s, Mandrus Millenium 18s or, 17" Ruchas! I really need to see all three on s211s to see which looks best! :) I curse being a libran at times like this! LOL!

I think I'm a Pyrex.
I'm told I was one of the first 'test tube' babies......:dk:

LOL!! Funnily enough, I spent the first 2 months of my life (according to my parents) in an incubator, so I know where you're coming from! LOL! I wonder if that's why I hate lifts and other small spaces?? :P

So that would be the 29th? Might be possible, if I'm not meeting my wife at Heathrow on that day (not sure of her schedule yet). Are there any other impromptu gtgs during November?
I should bring a cake than:)

See pics of my 2008 S211 in the photo gallery, it has 285/35/18 on the rear with avantgarde suspension and it's fine, a close fit but no rubbing that I'm aware of.

Those wheels look really nice! :) Saw a set on Ebay just now, but as I'm still in Russia, no chance of me getting them! :( Ah well! Did they fit straight on with no mods or spacers etc?

No mods at all required, as was advised by Chris Murray, I even managed to use the centre caps and wheel bolts from my standard S211 alloys as they fit anyway.

Fronts don't rub even on full lock, and the self levelling suspension seems to keep the back arches 'rub-free' even with a load on board (moved a large oak chest of drawers yesterday!)

Offsets on my wheels are ET30 front and ET33 rear if that helps you at all, fronts are 8.5''x18'', rear 9.5''x18''.

My Avantgarde has the standard suspension, I don't think it's self levelling - might this be an issue with wheels of this size?

I didn't think mine did either as it wasn't mentioned when i bought the car and i don't recall reading about it in the manual, but a month or so back I loaded the car for a trip to ireland, the suspension was very, very low at the back, started the car and went back to lock the house and on passing noticed the rear rising up, voila, self-levelling!

Open the tailgate, get a couple of heavy mates to sit feet dangling over edge, then start the car whilst observing the rear, it may just rise up and surprise you.

I understand that all S211 have self leveling rear suspension. Both my last two Avangarde spec cars had.
I do think the 18" wheels on your car look just right! Turns the car from quality workhorse to something very special looking;)

Do you think 18" Mandrus Milleniums would look good too?

Guys any idea if a W211 has self levelling suspension, still toying with the idea of putting on AMG 18" rims onto my E320 cdi AvantGarde, orginally the wheels are off a S Class with FRONTS ARE 255/40 ZR 18 MICHELIN AND REARS 285/35/ZR18...

my s211 has slightly rolled arches to reduce the lip, this appears to have been done at the factory as I bought the car with amg 18inch wheels from MB direct at 3months old.

Check if the arches are rolled as this may help not to rub

Thanks chap will check, although be good to hear from some one has a saloon - W211...
