Hello all, I’ve looked through the forum and generally on line but can’t find a steer on this one. On a long drive my air con seems to suddenly stop blowing cold, the air con light stays lit and it seems the fan maybe gets slower when this happens. (I normally just leave it on auto)

On a recent trip I turned the a/c off for a while, then back on and it blew cold again.

I had a look on my iCarsoft and apart from a broken connection for the passenger footwell temp sensor (I’ll try to fix today) it comes up with “power supply too low”.

Any ideas what the issue could be or where to look? I thought maybe the compressor clutch could be the culprit? There are loads of parameters I can look at with the iCarsoft but I’m not actually sure what I’m looking for! It’s got gas, I know that much, and it does blow cold, just strange it stops after a while.

Sound like your evaporator is freezing up.. On a long run the evaporator gets covered in ice and restricts the air flow. I would have thought there would have been a freeze switch somewhere to stop that happening.

Turning the A/C off melts the ice and the system works till it freezes up again.

Hmm interesting. I’ve just fixed the footwell temp sensor and it’s now not showing any codes. I’ll see what it does on the next long run. Cheers!

In summer? I raher doubt it.

There should be a sensor that keeps the temp at around 4 dec C that stops the evaporator freezing up. It used to be called a ranco stat.
Simple to check if you have a thermometer - put everything to maximum low temp and up to face vents. Temperature should be around 4 deg C at the centre face vent.

Thanks I’ll give this a go!
