Went to fill up yesterday in local Shell at £1.54 for V Power. After filling I could not get the flap to click shut . After 5mins I just held it in and locked the car. Paid for fuel and tried again - no joy, so drove home with flap sticking out about 25-30mm
On the drive, still no joy and no sign of anything broken.
A search however reveals this is a common issue with Merc (and others) fuel flaps.
Took the flap off, cleaned everything, straightened the rubber cord and re positioned all as recommended on Interweb

Still no joy - locks fine, but will not click shut no matter what I have tried.
Temp fix by using a strong magnet, double side taped to the flap and its held against the rubber surround which has steel behind it.
Never had this on any other vehicle I have ever owned.
