Trying to work out when I'm going to need to change the transmission oil. How do I know if its a NAG2, NAG2-FE.

One is changed at 31,000 miles and the other is changed at 77,500 miles.

The code I have from the VIN is 722908 07 621682.

Cheers

Hi,

I am sure that you will have the NAG2-FE on your S212 from 2013.
I presume you have Stop/Start as it was introduced on the E Class from late 2011 which is when the NAG2-FE was first used.
Your transmission number is certainly higher than the introduction number below.
That requires different ATF (spec 236.15) and a slightly updated procedure for draining the TC (need to remove the electric pump to get access to the TC drain plug ).

Here is the line from an official Merc documentation sheet:
Automatic transmission fluids (ATF), sheet 236.15, 7-speed automatic transmission 722.9 as of transmission sequence number 2834527 with engine 113, 152, 156, 157, 275, 279, 7-speed automatic transmission 722.9 as of transmission sequence number 2834527 except vehicles with engine 113, 152, 156, 157, 275, 279, 629.

Thanks for that.

Hi,

The above quote from a Merc official document is confusing (to me anyway).

Here is a page from another Mercedes document with the spec of the oil (236.15) and saying that it should be used in all 7 Speed 722.9 gearboxes produced after June 2010.

Also, here is a quote from a Mercedes article describing the evolution of the 7G-Tronic Plus:-

Optimized vehicle cooling, an improved fluid formula, and reduced friction throughout the transmission translate into extended service intervals, whereby the fluid no longer must be replaced the first 50,000 km, but every 125,000 km only.

Every 125,000 Km (78,000 miles) seems to be very infrequent -- I will certainly do mine more often than that.

By the way -- the gearbox service interval should be in your handbook too.

It is 125,000 km or 5 years whichever occurs first.

I'm just about to have the ATF changed on my 2012 S212 after 5 years [or 77,500 miles] so assume yours would be the same service interval as yours is newer. As others said if you've got stop-start it'll be the NAG2-FE+
