S320 CDi - 185k miles, is this a good buy??

Chaps - seen this on Autotrader..is this excessive miles and if one was to consider such a car is it likely to be a money pit from the outset?

The I6 engine in the car is good for many miles. We have seen many cars in excess of 300k miles and a 210 E class with 500k on it in perfectly saleable condition.

The things that would concern me would be

Condition:

Is the body work ok, there will be stone chips. That era of S class is prone to rust.

Engine and gearbox: is it smooth to drive, are there warning lights lit up? Does the car change through the gears smoothly? One warning light might be ££ to fix

Service history and maintanence? Stamped book, receipts to back it up? Reputable Specialist/main dealer or some two bit outfit?

IIRC you were looking at AMG S classes? Why not look at the S500L. I have been in one and it ain't exactly slow and its not got the banzai AMG parts and insurance costs.

Thanks for the advice chaps. I guess the car was sold, hence link didn't work.

I'll look into the S500L also - I was just keen to get those 3 letters on the bootlid. But considering both are going to be pretty fast, its worthwhile considering the 500L also...cheers again.
